Great compact stroller?

My daughter just turned 1 and has officially outgrown her infant seat/stroller combination. I have tried a few other strollers, a jogging stroller (which I love for its smooth ride, but doesn't work because I have a tiny 2nd floor apartments and a tiny trunk (honda civic hybrid). I tried a basic umbrella stroller, which is great in it's compactness but is a very uncomfortable ride for my daughter and for my husband and I to push, also there is no where to put her diaper bag and toys.

Any suggestions about a lightweight, compact, comfortable, affordable (<$150) stroller with a storage basket for mine and baby's stuff?

  • Maybe an Uppa Baby G-Luxe ($189) or G-Lite ($119)?  I have the UPPA Vista and love it but it's not very compact.  Their two smaller strollers get rave reviews and both fold like umbrellas but have more features and are supposed to be more convenient.  I would not recommend any of the Maclarens.  I know people love them but my mom has one (the top of the line but I dont know what it's called) and she and I both hate it, especially compared to the UPPA.

I would check amazon and see if they are having any sales (zulily had the g-luxe once but it was a long time ago).  Also, UPPA's customer service is amazing.  I called them to say the brake on my stroller was sticking and was there any maintenance I needed to do and they sent me a whole new frame for FREE.  Obviously I love their stuff.  Good luck

  • For our travel/umbrealla stroller we have the Baby Jogger City Mini and it works great for those functions.  It's a little pricier, but you can catch it on sale occasionally.  They also have the City Micro which I think is around $100.

I second Uppa's customer service, we also have the Vista and LOVE it!!  I haven't actually seen a G-Luxe/Lite in person, but I would definitely look at that also.  We're finally getting a Buy Buy Baby in our area, I can't wait to have somewhere to go that carries the nicer brands.

  • I am in the same boat as you.  I am currently trying to sell my stroller on CL.  Hoping to get a Britax B-Agile.

We have the City Micro and I seriously LOVE the thing.  It's not quite as nice as the Mini (smaller sunshade and the back doesn't recline completely flat) but it's an awesome relatively lightweight stroller that I can fold with one hand that takes up very little room in my trunk because it folds flat (same way as the mini).  We just took it to a bunch of craft shows this weekend and I could pop it up or take it down in less than a minute with one hand.   Babyjogger discontinued making them at the beginning of this year (Honestly just because they were so reasonably priced I think) but you can still get them online new from several retailers for 110 or less.

I had an UppaGLuxe that I Hated.  Yeah it was lightweight (about 5 lbd lighter) but I had major problems with the straps, plus I hated the way the thing folded, it absolutely required two hands to fold it.  When you're trying to hold a LO and fold it it just doesnt work unless you have somewhere to sit them down at.   Plus the way it foled it actually took up more room in our very short trunk because we had to put it in diagonally.  We ended up selling it on Craigslist and picking up a City Micro instead and I am so happy we did.

  • We love our Maclaren Triumph.  It's so smooth, easy to push, easy to fold and get up, and SO small.

  • We really like our Britax Blink that we got at albeebaby on clearance for only $70.  Lightweight, compact, good recline, decent canopy, and an easily accessible basket.  It has a strap to carry it over your stroller, and it comes with a travel bag.

We also have a Baby Jogger City Mini, and we like that as well, but it's a bit out of your price range.  We got the Blink primarily for travel, but I've been using it for errands and shopping because it is easy to maneuver through stores (BJCM is wider).  So it looks like the Blink is ending up to be my main stroller, and the BJCM will be used for all-day outings and the like.
