Kids' slippers with good traction?

The kids have been running around the house in socks the past few cold days, and there has been much sliding (and crashing) on the wood floors.  I'd like to avoid ER trips this winter, but I haven't found a brand of slippers yet that (1) has decent treads or soles to keep little feet stable, (2) is easy for them to put on themselves, and (3) isn't heavy, furry material that makes their feet sweat.  Any recommendations are appreciated.

Re: Kids' slippers with good traction?

  • my LO is obviously not walking yet, but I noticed that Old Navy, Gap and Children's Place socks all have treads on them....would that be enough?  then you don't have to worry about them putting on or taking off slippers at all?

  • We have wooden floors, too, and I quickly learned that the "no slip" socks and footed PJs were definitely not no slip on our floors. The best traction I've found has been with Acorn booties https://vip.zappos.com/acorn-kids-easy-bootie-infant-toddler-stars. They may be warmer than you want, though.

  • I'll give you my sanity inducing hint - use a glue gun to create treads on your kids socks and slippers.  I just draw flowers, happy faces, trucks, whatever floats their boat.  It does OK in the wash, I sometimes have to reapply but it takes really little time and actually works.
  • Thanks for asking this as I have been wondering the same thing. Most of the slippers only have these tiny little dots which don't seem to offer any traction so I've been wondering the same thing.

HJ - Great idea. I never would've thought of that.

Thanks - I'll buy some cheap socks and give this a try.  I used the same method (with no success) with puffy fabric paint, but see how tackier glue could work.

I do have them wearing the socks with treads already, but now that they're out of the toddler, slow-and-careful walking stage, they run like banshees...socks are no match for them!  I'll also check out the Zappos link.  My kids get sweaty (and therefore stinky) feet pretty easily, so I have to be careful what I put on their feet - or at least buy something that'll hold up to frequent washings.
