XP: Should I wait? Stroller question

I have been considering getting the Baby Jogger City Mini and using the car seat adapter for our baby. However, while doing my research I came across the 2012 Baby Jogger City Mini GT and it looks awesome! There are a few improvements from the 2011 that really appeal to me.

DH and I are both tall so the adjustable handlebar would be great, as would the easier access basket, since I'll be using a large diaper bag. The ONE problem is that this stroller isn't due to come out until Feb/March 2012. DH's grandma has already offered to buy our stroller for my shower (which will be in January) and I'm wondering how this would all work time-wise?

What would you do? Wait to get the 2012 City Mini GT or go with the 2011 City Mini?

Re: XP: Should I wait? Stroller question

  • I'd wait. I have the City Mini and love it, but the underseat basket is definitely a pain and hard to get stuff in and out of. If they've improved that, it's worth waiting. Worst case scenario you can borrow a snap-and-go from a friend if the stroller release is delayed.

  • I would probably wait and get the stroller you want. I didn't even use a stroller until DD was at least 1-2 months and even then it wasn't super frequently until more like 3 months.

  • I agree, definitely wait for what you want.  You'll be stuck with the stroller for a while and it would be frustrating everytime you use it to know that if you had just waited a couple more months you could have had all the upgrades.  Definitely wait it out.

  • Wait.  It's a big investment, strollers aren't cheap....get the one you really love.
  • I'd wait. :) I plan to get a Snap N Go (or, more likely, the new KeyFit Caddy) for our LO at first, that way I can unsnap the car seat from the base and snap it right into a stroller frame. Simple, lightweight, and no need to wake/get LO out for quick trips to the store and still usable for around the block walks. I'm getting another lightweight stroller (Chicco Capri) for when LO gets bigger.

I second the Snap n Go type stroller, we used that a LOT with my daughter when she was still in her carrier.

  • I should probably put this in a seperate post, but I see a lot of bumpies talking about buying their own stroller or crib or whatever.

Don't you plan to have a shower?  This seems like a gift that a group could get your or a close family member like mom or sister etc.

I say, Register, Wait and See.  Also, I returned a bunch of stuff given to me at my baby shower and had enough store credit to get some of the pricier gifts that weren't purchased.

I did mention in my OP that DH's grandma plans on buying the stroller for us...I'm just thinking that she may want to purchase it before the shower that way she actually has a physical gift to give at the shower. However, the release date of the stroller may make that impossible.

  • I'm so glad you posted this because I just went and looked at the video for this new stroller, and it is amazing!!!  I will have the same problem as you in that my shower will be in February and it looks like this may not come out until March.  I think if you have someone willing to buy it for you, the definitely wait!  Now I just need to find someone to buy it, haha!

  • I would say wait and get what you want. I won't be buying our double stroller until January or February. I decided on the Baby Jogger City Select.

I don't think you can count on family members or friends to buy the big items. We bought our travel system with DD because it was expensive and I know how DH's family is, very cheap. You are very lucky if you have people willing to buy that for you!

We are BEYOND lucky! Both of our families tend to be overly generous. DH's other grandma is buying our crib (she buys the cribs for ALL of her great-grandkids), my grandma is buying our dresser and ILs are buying our glider. I was literally in shock each time one of them approached me and offered to buy these items. I was at least expecting that we'd have to furnish the nursery, you know!?

I am jealous! My parents bought us our crib, but my family is awesome. lol DH's family will go in on gifts for people but only want to spend $10-$20 per couple (and he has 7 siblings!) It's ridiculous. For every single occasion (wedding, shower, etc) they want to go in on a gift because nobody can put effort into picking something out themselves. Drives me nuts.

All of our big stuff was purchased by family and given at our shower

To OP: can't she give you a card with money/check/gift card to get the stroller when it comes out.
