Because of the real emergency surrounding my c/s, my interior cut is vertical (traditional) and exterior/cosmetic exterior cut is the bikini horizontal cut. I was told that if I have another baby it would have to be c/s because of this. Anyone else in similar boat. Also, were any of you knocked out and under anesthesia for c/s? I still feel so robbed that I missed the birth of my son.
Re: Anyone else have a vertical incision?
I had an emergency c-section this past Saturday and I have the interior vertical cut. My doctor has stressed multiple times how important it is that I never have a vaginal birth I think because you risk the vertical incision opening up.
And while they had time to do the spinal for me I didn't miss the birth but it was not a happy moment the way it is for other moms. It was traumatic and terrifying so I do feel kind of robbed. Also they didn't have someone go get DH fast enough after the spinal was done and they did the section so quickly he missed the birth, he got there after the NICU team was already intubating her. Pretty mad about that but I guess their main concern at that moment was mother and baby...
and after 82 days in the NICU, our little girl is home!
I have a vertical incision. I was able to have a spinal, but I still feel robbed. Because of my cord failing and him being born at 28w4d he didn't cry at birth and they had to perform CPR on him. I was told that I have to have repeats to avoid the risk of uterine rupture and I can't go past 38w. When I had Lucas my incision was horizontal so now I have a T shape on my ute.
I can't watch any shows that have a vaginal delivery because I'm so jealous that I can never try for one. I also avoid birth stories unless I know they were c-sections. I feel like less of a women because I can't have a vaginal delivery. I don't normally tell people this because I don't want to hear well at least your second was born healthy.
I am so sorry Iristony. It breaks my heart to hear/read the stories of ladies being knocked out and not being there for the birth.
I plan on having my next (and last) c/s video tapped so I can actually watch my child being born instead of just looking up at the ceiling
A lot of places will hold up a mirror or lower the curtain so that you can see the birth. I know my hospital will do this if you ask. They do not allow any pictures or video to be taken in the OR.
I asked about both of those, but they wouldn't let me. Mine lets me take pictures or videos in the OR. In fact the drug dr (I can never spell the word correctly) is the one who took the pictures of Lucas being born.
I don't have a vertical incision, but I was in and out of sleep during the birth of my second daughter. I had a terrible anxiety attack during the beginning of my c/s and asked for a sedative, which made me go to sleep, so I don't remember my second child being born. My first fuzzy memory of her is in the recovery room, and it does make me feel sad at times. As times goes on though, those negative feelings about her birth fade. I focus on being here for my daughter now, not the fact that I was asleep when she was pulled out.
