Toddlers & Disney - Sleeping, naps, night park

Hey, like I mentioned below, we are going to Disney next month for the Mickey Christmas event.  We plan on arriving exactly at 7 when park opens for us since boys go to sleep at 8pm.  I'm sure that will go out the door since they will be overwhelmed with excitment at the new surroundings.  But just wanted to see what your expriences have been.  That will be their first time at a park.  We'll visit other parks the following days, but only time we'll be at MK.

Also, I already told SIL (trip organizer) that I really want to hit the baby rides/area first for their sake of not passing out too early (she understands bc her baby is same age as boys).

Suggestions?  Anything extra I should know?  I'm so excited!  :)

  • You're allowed in at 4 with the Christmas party tix, even though it doesn't officially start until 7.

The first time we took Alexis she was 9 months old and she fell asleep in her stroller when she tired, we covered her with a blanket and that was that. My mom was with us so we could take turns going on the adult rides while someone stayed with Alexis. You'll notice a big difference in the number of people in the park after 7, there will be fewer people.

FYI they have a baby care area close to crystal palace where you can feed / change / just hang out for a bit. It's great.

Awesome to know!  I need to tell SIL so we can get there early, and take pics in daytime.  :)

  • I was about to mention the same thing :) They actually recommend you get there early so you can get your bracelet and do some rides before the crowds come in.

This will be J's First time going and I'm super excited. Looking forward to hearing how it goes for you

  • Hit Fantasy Land first, it always gets the most packed so take advantage when the crowds are not as high. And definitely take advantage of the Baby Care Center, those places are awesome. Orlando can be very cold during the winter and especially in the evening, so go prepared for the weather! :-) I would suggest to try and get them to nap a bit later on that day so they enjoy some of the rides. But even if it doesn't happen, they will fall asleep when tired and you just play it by ear. Some of the rides are great for naps anyway! lol Have fun!!!!

  • We go every year, even before our kids were born. If you really want to ride the kiddie rides, go during the parade - there is virtually no line during the pardade. But the kids may enjoy seeing all the ligthts, so keep that in mind too

  • Hi Jackie!  We are doing the same thing in December.  Our plan is Chef Mickey's @ 10:30, then nap, and then hit Mickey's Christmas Party @ 4 p.m. Leanna gave me that tip a few months ago.  Elise is a trooper and she won't fall asleep when there are people around.  She's been up until 11 or so when we had a family dinner and she was okay. She gets more cuddly when she's tired, lol.  So, I'm not going to stress about bedtime that night.  We plan to drive up the day before and visit Sea World or Downtown Disney so that day should be pretty low-key.

We are driving up Friday morning, starting during the AM nap.  : )  So, we should arrive @ 2pm to check in, rest a bit and hit the park early (thanks for the 4pm tip again!).

I'm totally not stress about  naps and going to sleep past bedtime... I just don't want them to pass out as usual @ 830pm and miss out on the fun.

As for the character breakfasts, they are ALL booked (esp since we are a party of 16 inc infants).  Whatev.
