With me working at UC Health, it is practically free for me to deliver at University Hospital. BUT - very few non University of Cincinnati Physicians doctors deliever there.
Have any of you ladies delievered at University or used an OB from UCP? What was your experience? Any suggestions or questions to ask?
TIA!
Re: Anyone deliver at University or use UCP OB/GYN?
There was a discussion of several hospitals, including University recently:
https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/57833587.aspx
I delivered at UC (with a peri who's no longer in Cincinnati) and the experience was so much better than expected. It's all private rooms (albeit small rooms). I delivered in the OR due to twins - so I can't speak to birthing suites or anything like that. The nursing staff was top notch.
Note that there is no nursery for healthy babies - it's room-in only (unless it's changed since I've been there). It also has a level III NICU (which thankfully I did not use), which is reassuring in case of PTL or other health issues.
I saw that thread, but it seemed geared mostly toward peris and multiples. I don't know yet if I will need either
I will go to University without a bat of an eye if I am high risk. But, for a routine PG... I am just kind of worried.
My OB seemed less than thrilled and kind of rushed me through my 1st appt. I understand he sees a LOT of PG women each day. But we were in the beginning stages of IF treatment and 2 months from seeing the RE. This BFP is exciting for DH and I, and I felt like my happy balloon was deflated after my appointment.
I responded on that earlier post and it was not regarding multiples, but rather my experience with University:
"I gave birth at UC, but because I was a student at UC at the time and had student health insurance, therefore I didn't have much choice if I wanted the full benefits of my insurance. Anyway, I also was not thrilled about it, but it turned out to be a great experience. My L&D nurse was actually a former doula, which was amazing - she was fantastic, a total advocate for me when I was having a hard time speaking for myself (i.e. labor). The rooms were nice, but small. The nursing staff was phenomenal. Overall, I was very pleased and would not have any issues delivering there again. One thing to be aware of though is that UC is a teaching hospital. My epi was administered by a resident (under the supervision of a anesthesiologist) and there were 2 residents during delivery. My OB actually delivered Maddie when she came out though. So I guess this could be a positive or a negative depending on what you want."
I am actually surprised that the OB didn't seem more excited. Everyone was great when I went for my appointments. Dr. Miller is the OB I saw most often and actually ended up delivering Maddie. There was not a single OB that I saw that I would not have wanted to deliver Maddie - I saw Miller, Thompson, Van Hook, and another one that I can't remember his name right now (sorry).
