4 YO Birthday party?

A few questions:

Kids only or still have parents come?

If you were invited to a 4YO bday party would you expect it's just kids or would you stay?

If it's at our house and it's just like a play date is that too lame?

I asked W what he wants to do and if he wants a theme:  he said balloons and cake so I'm thinking low key and just have cookie decorating and maybe 1 other game, still TBD.

Re: 4 YO Birthday party?

  • I think at 4 you still have the parents stay.  Tillman went to a 5 year birthday party when he was like 4 years and 3 months and it was drop off.  I was super nervous the whole time.  It just seemed too young.

Your low key plan sounds great.  Kids don't care, they just want to have fun and have cake (at least that's what I want from a party).

TTC #2 for a million years: SA normal, CD 23 bloodwork shows nothing amiss, ovulation detected. Next step: ? maybe CD3 bloodwork to check eggs? All out of pocket, so limited IF tests/treatments.

  • I think I'd still expect parents to attend, unless you specify it's a drop-off party in the invite I'd probably assume it was parents too until elementary school or so?  4 seems pretty young, I don't think I personally would be comfortable leaving my kiddo then.

Balloons would be fun!  Maybe an "Up" party?  :)

  • Love the up theme!!! I think parents and kids is ok. You can leave it up to the parents if they want to leave their child or stay. Your house is nice and big great for his birthday party.

  • For M's 4th b.day the parents stayed. It was small (2 kids, everyone was sick) and we all knew eachother.

  • Deb's party posting is awesome! I think that parents should still come to a 4-year old party! That would be a lot of work for you all by yourself.

  • We had Audreys 4th at a barn/farm in July and all the parents stayed. Actually both parents came with each kid! The parents had fun too. But it was outdoors with an activity. I wouldnt think to drop ER off at this age unless the invite said so specifically.

  • My friend just had her DD's 4th party at her house and she said the parents stayed, but she said she thinks it would have been fine if they dropped off and left. I think I would assume I would stay, or at least I would ask when I brought my child.

I think balloons, cake and presents, maybe a game or two, is perfect for that age.
