Crib Transitioning

Last night was LO's first night in his crib. I know,  i know...its late for him, but we had a hard time letting him go :(

He did HORRIBLE.  He usually sleeps through the night in his bassinet. He was up every 2 hours in the crib. He is swaddled in a woombie, and would shimmy his way over to the bars of the crib and then cry bc his head was pressed up against them...

I knwo it was only the first night, but does anyone have any suggestions on how to make LO sleep better in there? I feel bad that he was so miserable.

Re: Crib Transitioning

  • We had our first crib night last night too...And it worked finally! I think she just wasn't ready when we were trying before. Also, my pedi recommended rolling towels and putting them under the mattress pad (if he's not rolling yet), which really helped. I think it made her feel secure and she had her best night of sleep yet (9 hours). Good luck!

  • Great tip on the towels. You could also try putting the Boppy under the crib sheet. Do you have breathable bumpers on to maybe soften the bars on his little bean? Not sure of the texture of your bassinet but I've also read that putting them in the bassinet in their crib helps. You do that for a few nights and then take it away.

  • yes. i'm going to try the towels....that will prevent him from moving, which is prob why he woke up in the first place.

i had a regular bumper, which i removed, so i have no bumper right now. but the towels should prevent him from reaching the bumpers.

i cant put the bassinet in the crib bc its all one peice on legs..that probably works if you have a basket kind, im assuming. thanks for the advice, ladies! :)

  • Thanks for the advice - I just put LO in her crib for the first time last night also and it was horrible.  So are the naps today.  With DD#1, I had her in the crib MUCH earlier and I wished I had done it with DD#2 - same thing as you, couldn't let go sice she is my baby and the last one - time for me to get over that NOW or else the next 20 years or so are going to be real rough. LOL

I will definitely try the towels - makes sense to help them feel a little more closed in like in the bassinet.
