January 2012 Moms

If you work, when are you going on leave?

What week are you planning to go out?

I am planning to go out at 37w.  Last time I planned on 39w, but went out at 38w because my sciatica was so bad I couldn't deal with work any longer (delivered at 41w).  I am hoping that 37w will give me some time to relax, make some freezer meals, clean up the house, and tie up any loose ends before the baby's arrival.  With my luck, I'll deliver at 37w, lol.

It hit me before that this is only 10 weeks away!  That is crazy!  I was doing my lesson plans earlier up until the time I leave and this is going to fly by in an insant.

Re: If you work, when are you going on leave?

  • Because I only get 12 weeks total, I want to use as much of that time with DS, so I'll probably work until I go into labor. That's what I did last time and it worked out fine for me.

  • I'll probably just not come back from the Christmas break. It'll give me a few more weeks but I'll probably be so uncomfortable that I'll just make the decision.

I'm not getting paid for it so it doesn't have to be doctor ordered or anything. I can just decide.

  • I am planning on leaving at about 38 weeks. I work retail so leaving before that would just kinda be horrible for my fellow co-workers. Plus I don't get paid maternity leave so I need to work as long as possible for at least the money. I also decided yesterday that I will probably not be going back to that job once the baby gets here. There is waaaaay too much petty drama going on and my head manager sees it but will not do anything to fire the problem. So my new goal is to have a job lined up or find something while I am off on leave. Hopefully that works out!

  • If all goes according to plan I will be working until 38 wks and 2 days. That's the earliest I could do while still making sure I get all of my holiday pay. Like one PP already said, I only get 12 weeks so I need to work as long as possible...I just don't think I can make it any longer than that!

  • I work for a day care so I'm working until Xmas break which brings me to 38 weeks.  The kids are in school this year until the 23rd, then come back the 2nd of Jan (where I live).  I won't be going back though.

  • I plan on taking leave right after Christmas.  The Friday before Christmas will be my last day- I hope!  I will not be getting paid so I plan on working as long as I possibly can and then taking 12 weeks after LO is here.

  • My c-section is scheduled for January 3.  My plan right now is to go out right at Christmas so the first day of my leave will be December 26.

The reason I decided this is because I have to use one week my time (vacation, flex...) to start my short-term disability.  At my work you can only use vacation time you have accrued so if I were to go out the beginning of January it would have to be unpaid since I won't have any vacation time accrued yet.  Going out the last week of December allows me to use a week of vacation from 2011.

  • I'm a contractor, and my contract goes until the end of the year, but if they would like to extend up to Jan 10th, I'd stay if able.  I'm due the 17th.

  • I haven't discussed it with my bosses yet, I'm not even sure if I'll be returning after the baby. But I'm thinking that my 37th week will be my last week before the baby comes.

  • By law in Germany, you are not allowed to work past 34 weeks, so I will be starting my maternity leave on Nov. 22.  Its so crazy to me that I have 7 weeks left of work!

  • This is something that scares me because I have no idea! I'd like to work up until the end since I don't get maternity leave and I don't want to "waste" vacation to sit and do nothing... But I may be so tired by then that I can't imagine working another day.

  • I *think* I am going out the 2nd week of December - I'm so excited it's so close!!!! I can't wait!!  I love going out on maternity leave (even though I've only gone out once before) - it's an awesome feeling to NOT have to come to work and just get stuff done for the baby!!!

  • I plan to work as long as possible, but we have a very very tiny staff so I will set a deadline for myself to have major things done or lined up for someone else to be able to easily work on several weeks before the due date - probably 36 weeks, so the week before Christmas, and then just work on whatever I can until the baby actually comes.

  • I am due January 3 and plan to take clients for sessions up to the 16th. After that I will just be finishing editing, processing orders, etc. until it is all done and then plan to return to work at the end of February.

This is exactly how I feel!!!!!!

  • I will work until this baby comes.  I am due on a Wednesday and I don't really plan on working, but I'll show up if the baby isn't here.  Tuesday is a staff development day so I just have to sit there, Monday is a holiday so I'm off, Sunday and Saturday are the weekend so really, I am hoping to be done on Friday and have a few days without students before the baby comes.  If not, then it's just a three day week and I'll probably be done the Friday after my due date.  I want as much time off as I can get and they aren't paying me if I'm not there.
Hallelujah, it's a miracle, I have children AND a signature!

  • I plan on working until I go into labor unless the Dr. instructs me otherwise.  We do have a use it or lose it pto policy at work and can not carry any time over.  I plan on taking the last week of the year off and that the first week of January is a short with the Monday holiday and I am due that Friday.  If the LO cooperates it will be a short week of handing my files over to the person covering for me while I am out.

  • Since I used some of my FMLA during my first trimester morning sickness, I have only about 8 weeks left.  I am still undecided about whether or not I will go back to work, but even if I don't I want to work through New Years Eve if possible.

I work retail and most of my pay is commission.  December is our twice yearly sale, and the week between Christmas and New Years is the busiest of the year for stores inside casinos in Las Vegas.  (We actually do not have a holiday rush before Christmas...just a lot of people shopping for sale)  So I want to earn as much as possible before I leave.  I usually double my income each December.  Standing all day, being busy,  is not going to be fun at 38 weeks, but if I can medically do it, I will.

  • I am leaving at 37 weeks.  I decided to leave my practice and look to join one a few months after the baby is born.  I may even leave at 36 weeks depending if the business manager starts pissing me off even more.

  • We stop working at 12 weeks of pregnancy, so I've already been home for 14 weeks on preventive leave. Then have 1 year paid mat leave.
  • I'm due 1/16, and my last day will most likely be 12/16 at work, I went out 4 weeks ahead last time and I am glad I did. I have new doctors so I hope that I can repeat what I did for DS's pregnancy, we'll see. If not then I'll just work until Fri the 23rd and then go out.

  • I go on leave when I go into labor.  I worked the day I went into labor w/DD.
  • Last day will be 37w1d.

Then we have winter break so I get that bonus week. My leave technically starts the following Monday.

12 more weeks to go :)

  • I haven't decided. Last time I worked until 39 weeks but DS didn't arrive until 41.5 weeks so I felt like I was twiddling my thumbs for a couple of weeks there. But, this time I'm dealing with some terrible symphysis pubis dysfunction and may ask for a doctor's note to take a couple weeks off as sick-time pre-baby.

  • After reading these I want to live in Canada or Germany or pretty much anyplace other than the US.

However, I'm a teacher so my last day will be at Christmas break, Dec. 16th. I. Can't. Wait. I plan on not going back. Ever. :)

  • I get 4 weeks off before the delivery (and I'm not even Canadian.. though my kids are. Big Smile)

I'll go out shortly after the first of the year, most likely, barring any complications (knocking on wood!!)

  • Currently, I plan to show up until I go in to labor, but we'll see. If the doctor recommends bed rest or it's all too much, the plan will change.

I don't plan on going back ever either. :)

  • I am a teacher - my last day will be December 16. I will be 36w2d. If it wasn't for Christmas break I'd work longer. My due date is January 11 but I will most likely have my c-section January 4 so I just won't come back from Christmas break. I plan to stay home until March 19. I can't wait!!!Big Smile
  • Hopefully I'll be able to work until the baby comes. I only get 6 weeks maternity leave and I want every minute of that with the baby! My office only has 6 employees so none of the laws apply to us, I'm lucky to get 6 weeks. I'm scared to death of the thought of a C/S since they recommend that you take at least 8 weeks of mat leave.

Ditto.  I want to spend as much time as possible with our LO and don't want to spend any of my maternity leave on my own, unless I absolutely have to.

  • I'd like to leave at 38 weeks but I'll need a doctor's note.  do you think it is standard for the dr to do that?

That's my check out date too! I'll be 39w1d. If all goes according to plan, that's when I will be leaving. I will be out for 9 weeks, going back Mar. 5th. I do not get any paid maternity leave, and I will be using up the only five days paid vacation I get a year.

  • I'm due January 8th and am planning to work until I go into labor (or my OB tells me otherwise, of course).  We can work from home with a good deal of flexibility, so I plan to work at home if we get any snowy/icy days and maybe even the last week.
