I noticed when I just dropped DS off at daycare this morning that the place looked really dirty and I'm wondering if I should say something. I've known for a while that the place isn't spotless and considering I'm not always the cleanest person AND since they tell me they wash toys and floors every night, I haven't said anything before now. But the walls behind the high chairs are scuzzy and this morning the floors looked dirty, even though it's a Monday morning and they haven't exactly had the kids running around all day/week yet.
I'm not sure how to ask the dcp how they clean and when they last really disinfected everything without sounding like a high-maintenance parent and accusing them of being dangerously filthy. I also feel like they'll think it's weird I'm just asking this now considering DS has been there for 8 months already. Is it normal for in-home dc's to be a bit dirty or am I totally valid to be bothered?

Re: How clean is your in-home dc?
Ours is very clean. They scrub the concrete outside, sanitize all the toys, and are really on top of messes. She also has a very strict sick policy, and I think that's really her personality to keep things clean and tidy. It's definitely cleaner than my house!
Our in-home is extremely clean, it was one of the things that made me choose her. I believe her when she says she sanitizes the toys every night and her entire house is spotless. This does make her a bit OCD about things like socks and snotty noses, but I'll take the trade off.
Honestly, it would bother me if my in-home was dirty. Toys or craft mess, no big deal, but actual dirt - no. I would say something and if it is really gross and not corrected, I'd look elsewhere.
Yeah, I posted elsewhere about this and got the same kind of response. I feel like my concerns are valid. Unfortunately DH is like "you don't want to make them mad" (he grew up in a semi-abusive environment so I always have to convince him it's OK to complain) so he's against me. I don't think this is a question that should make them mad at all...I believe they should be happy to keep the place sparkling clean for the kids. If it does make them mad, I guess it's time to look for a new place.
I used to think a little dirt is good for DS, but it's getting to be a bit much. I think I'll try to give them a call later tonight about it. I know I shouldn't worry about coming across as high-maintenance or bitchey for this, but I do anyway.

If its a one shot deal, then I wouldn't worry about it we all get a little behind some days. If you notice a trend, then say something.
I can't say how clean my dcp really is because DH does drop off, I really only see the house after its had 5 kids playing in it all days. And sometimes the floors are dirty, ok, most of the time the floors are dirty but the general house is clean.
DS has been in 3 different in home daycares. The first was clean but always a little cluttered. #2 & #3 are absolutely spotless.
Our current daycare providers (#3) playroom can be a little messy when I pick DS up, especially if they are playing legos or cars because there are so many pieces but the floor is always clean. Plus I walk by her kitchen and it is always spotless, there are never even any dishes in the sink. DS is the first to be dropped off in the morning and if I'm a little early I catch her sweeping the playroom floor (it's hardwood). She has 2 cats and I never even see any of their hair around.
I would definitly be concerned if I was you. Just because it is an in-home daycare it still has sanitation guidelines. I would say something.

I'm going to call tonight and ask them what they REALLY do when they clean. They say they do every night but I want to know why they apparently haven't done a deep-clean in the 8 months DS has been there. I've been noticing the same dirt in some areas for months and you'd think they'd at least wipe walls down occasionally.
The place is a little worn-down in general...I don't have issues with that as long as it's clean and safe and the kids are happy and well cared-for. I do think they could step it up on the cleaning for sure after hearing from others on this.
I had a mini-freakout today and actually called the state and they don't have any past citations for this stuff so that's at least a relief, but doesn't necessarily mean the dirt level is good.
