Gassy Little Man

So apparently DS #2 can't drink a bottle without sucking air and therefore making himself gassy...we have tried everything I can think of to help relieve this pain but not much seems to help. Any suggestions on teaching him to drink without sucking so much air, or ideas to help with gas? TIA!

  • I'm sorry C isn't doing well. I totally feel your pain, because we dealt with gas issues a lot with A. You may be doing this already, but when you make his bottles, stir them rather than shake them. That helped A a lot. HTH C!

  • We would make a day's worth of formula in a Nalgene bottle (handy, since there are measurements on the side), and store it in the fridge. That way, by the time we made a bottle, the bubbles from shaking it up had settled down. We also put a couple of gas drops in most of her bottles. HTH!

  • Burp, burp, burp, burp, every 1/2 an ounce to ounce.  We realized at 8 weeks we weren't burping DD1 enough and when we started burping her way more, her fussiness decreased a lot.

  • I always did what the PPs suggested, but I also bicycled Wesley's legs and gently massaged his tummy in a circular motion (as recommended by my pedi) to help relieve some of the pressure from gas. It seemed to help as well.
