Re: Fisher Price Rock and Play Sleeper

  • I highly recommend it! We love ours and so does DD. When she goes to my grandma's once I go back to work I'll take it with me each day for her to sleep in. It is so easy to travel with. It is perfect if you have a baby that loves being held while sleeping.

  • We have one and leave it at my inlaws. They have a fairly large house and instead of lugging everything down we leave it there with a pnp. She naps in the rock and play because we can move it to anywhere we are and leave the pnp in our room for when she sleeps at night.
  • DD is sleeping in it right now!

  • Love ours! We actually went out and bought one the day we came home from the hospital. LO slept in it the first few weeks and aside from that it's a great seat for him in any room of the house. It's small enough to pull into the bathroom so I can watch him while taking a shower, it fits nicely on my side of the bed without taking up so much room like a PnP. Small cost, small footprint. Totally worth it!

  • I have it. Absolutely LOVE this thing. Sure wish it was around when I'd had my son. Would've made my life a ton easier! This thing is awesome. I even broke it down and brought it in my suitcase when I flew with her at 6 weeks.
  • Totally been debating buying this since last night when my son wouldn't sleep in the bassinet but slept 5 hours in the swing. He has reflux that is not medicated. He spits up and is really gassy when laying down at night, and doesn't normally sleep well. Maybe for 4 hours then not for the rest of the night.

ETA: The bassinet is elevated too but doesn't seem to help.

  • We bought one after all the rave reviews I've read on here.  I had such high hopes for it, lol.  Unfortunately, our babe will have no part of it.

Go get one now. We had the same issue. DS sleeps so well in his! We bought one for daycare too, and he naps well there too. We tried a wedge in the cradle too, but it didn't work. The RNP is worth 10x the cost to me.

  • I was orginally only going to use it for naps and have DD sleep in the bassinet at night. After three sleepless nights I brought the RNP upstairs and she's been sleeping great ever since!

  • DD loves the RnP.  I just with it had something to keep it rocking instead of my arm

We have it and love it.  DD doesn't sleep in it at night, but she does nap in it and use it during waketime.  I would go and read some of the negative reviews on Amazon, however.  There are a lot of moms that have problems with flat heads/neck development after using it.  For this reason, I put a folded up burp cloth in the middle (the middle is rock hard and there isn't a lot of padding) and I don't let her sleep in it at night....I also didn't want to worry about transitioning her out of it for bedtime.

THIS!  I refused to buy it after all the bad reviews I saw online.  Most people said they loved the RnP in the beginning, but months later they noticed problems in their babies.  The RnP is great for sleeping and reflux, but it's the same as using a carseat.  They say don't let babies sleep in carseats because it can cause issues with flathead and neck development down the road.  My babies had some reflux issues as newborns, almost all babies do.  They slept in their cribs and are doing fine.  Most babies grow out of reflux, and mine certainly did.  They don't 'grunt' in their sleep anymore.  I'm also happy I didn't have to go through the whole 'transitioning to crib' thing.  They sleep great in their cribs.

I guess I'm not understanding why the RnP is any different than any other place where babies sit and sleep.  A baby can get a flat head from sleeping in a crib, a swing, a carseat, the RnP, etc.  I would think it's more an issue with which side the baby favors turning their head.  If they always turn their head to the left then that side will get flat no matter where you put them.  If they turn their head both ways then it probably won't get flat no matter where you put them.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

This. I find it hard to believe that such a highly rated item is causing head/neck problems for all babies using it. Like any other kind of baby seat...if you leave your kid in it all day long of course they will develop problems. I have a feeling this is what was happening with those babies. Just be aware of the amount of time spent in the RnP and you shouldn't have an issue.

I also find it hard to believe. My aunt, who is a pedi and had a kid with reflux, and our pedi both recommended it. He's only in it at night and for short naps during the day, so I don't see how its any different from the crib with a wedge. He's just at an angle so he doesn't puke. I'm going to try to transition him to his crib as soon as he can roll over, so he can sleep on his stomach safely. That's the only way he'll actually sleep in his crib.

We are very aware of his head shape because he was horribly misshapen at birth due to a dry birth and the forceps. I am very conscious to alternate the way his head turns in the RNP, which arm he's laying against while nursing, and which way he turns his head on the play mat. We do exercises to help him with neck flexibility. I don't think the RNP is any worse than a crib for flat head.
