Babies: 9 - 12 Months

9 Month old has never slept through the night?

I just want someone to commiserate with.  Please tell me there are others out there!

My 2 year old slept through the night at 2 months and is still a grand sleeper (in fact, she's still in bed, God bless her.)

My 9 month old was up at least 4 times a night until he was 6 months and still gets up at least twice.  I feel like I've done nothing differently!  So annoying!

  • My son is 11 months old and does not STTN.  He's up 2-3 times a night.  You are not alone.  I'm exhausted.

  • Mine doesn't STTN either. I keep trying to find a good time to sleep train to cut out those night wakings but something comes up. Like next week DH will be away so I won't feel bad letting him cry since it wouldn't keep him up but we'll be traveling for a couple nights so it seems pointless to just have to come back and re-do it. Honestly, at this point, I still nurse him back to sleep when he wakes because that's the quickest but when I wean at 1 year he'll get no boob so he's just going to have to learn to go back to sleep eventually. lol

Same story here, except usually no time is a good time because we risk waking his sister up in the middle of the night. He did sleep 7 hours straight one night and then we went on vacation and that screwed up anything we had going.  Now he has an ear infection, so I don't want to let him cry at night.  That's a good point about the 1 year mark, so at least I have that to look forward to.

  • I've got one good sleeper and the other ... not so much. He likes to get up 2 -3 times and really doesn't like going back to sleep.

  • My 10 month old has sttn a total of one week in her life and that was just a few weeks ago :/  We Ferbered to drop her last motn feeding because it became comfort nursing.  She did really well with it and sttn for almost a week!

Now she's back to waking up every night at about 3am.  I'm tired and ready for her to sleep better but I feel like we're doing everything we can.  I can only hope baby #2 will be a better sleeper!

I hope all of these babies start sttn soon!

  •  I feel your pain!

LO is 11 1/2 months and has never STTN.  We bedshare so she's more apt to wake up and want to nurse though.  We're going to night wean at 14 1/2 months when I have a couple weeks off of work since this is going to be more exhausting than just rolling over to nurse her.

  • Mine has sttn 3 times. And I kept waking up to check on him!! So, no sttn here either, and he's almost 10 months old.

Ditto.  She went down to 1 night waking for a few nights when we did CIO awhile back (which was total heaven!), but she has returned to 2-4 wakings and it's been that way for months.  I can't take it anymore.  Last night we started CIO again.

  • Yep. Us as well.

  • My DS slept through the night from about 3 months until about 6 months, but since then he's been up at least once a night.  Lately he sleeps in his crib from about 7:30 until 11 or so, then nurses and goes back to sleep in our bed with us.  He usually wakes up again around 4 or so and then goes back down until 6:30ish.

  • At 9 months I was still a zombie mommy, waking every 2 hours with LO. He's still up about 2 times a night now.

We let him CIO (at about 9 months) after we exhausted all of our other options, and had a baby who sttn within 2 nights. It was amazing! Then he got sick with a stomach virus, then there was a tooth that was finally busting through (it's always something). Our sttn baby fell back into waking for comfort.

We'll work on it some more in the near future, but for now 2 night wakings seems like a lot of progress compared to the first nine months of life.

  • DS used to go 3-4 hours, but he's gone back to waking up every 2 hours to nurse for almost two months now. From everything I know about baby sleep, waking is more common that STTN. It makes tons of sense biologically that babies wake. My guy is probably on the extreme side of night-waking frequency, but he is so, so happy during the day that we don't see it as a problem, just an inconvenience. It is just the way he is.  These two links always help me realize how normal night waking is.

  • Tyler still wakes up anywhere from 1 time a night to 4 times a night too. We've tried giving him water instead of milk in his bottles, letting him CIO--nothing works. Even if we don't go in his room we can still hear him on the monitor waking up, whining & taking a lil while to go back to sleep. We don't go in or give him middle of the night bottles anymore. You're def not alone.
