Babies on the Brain

First Dr. appt.

I am 24, my husband is 30. We have been trying to conceive for 11 months. I have been off BCP since 12/06. I have been doing OPKs since August. I have my annual with my OB/GYN next week. When I booked the appt. I let them know I would be addressing the TTC issue. At this appt. what can I expect? Just a conversation about it? BW? More appts.? I know that every doctor may approach this differently, but what are your experiences? TIA

  • You should chart if you don't already, because they'll probably be explaining o'ing times, etc. Bloodwork is also inevitable.

  • I know you use OPKs, but they don't confirm ovulation. Do you know for a fact you are ovulating?

Depending on the length and regularity of your cycles, they will probably do B/W to test your hormone levels, maybe do an U/S. If you aren't ovulating, they may prescribe Clomid to help you ovulate.

I bet this time will be just a conversation then they may have you come back again soon for tests.

  • I do not chart. I have an average cycle of 29 days, 31 days is the absolute longest I have gone. I'm pretty sure I am ovulating, with the OPKs, checking CM, and the little twinges and slight cramping that I get. Thanks for the response, I just wanted to get a little idea of what this appt. would entail.
  • i guess it depends on your situation.  when i talked to my nurse practitioner at my annual, it was just a quick conversation to get an idea of how soon, healthy things to do/not do, etc.  then she gave me some pamphlets and gave me a family screening questionnaire thing to mail back.

    good luck!
