High-Risk Pregnancy

GD: Magic Foods. Mine is a meatball grinder.

I have some foods like mac-n-cheese that just spike up my sugars.  Other foods I have found to be manageable and in range.  One of my favorite, favorite things is a meatball grinder toasted with cheese and peppers.  I have had it once before since being diagnosed with GD and I got an 82 one hour after my meal.  I figured it was a fluke.  It's meatballs on a white sub roll, for goodness sakes.  I had it again for lunch today.  I got an 82!!!!!  Can I tell you how excited I am that I can get this particular meal and still get great blood numbers?  

Do you have any magical mystery foods that you would think would give you high numbers, but just doesn't?

  • with both DD#1 and #2, if I had ice cream before bed, I would always have low #s in the am....weird, huh? I was able to eat oatmeal almost each morning with low #s, however my best friend would eat the exact same breakfast and get very high #s. So weird how diff. things work for diff. people!

    Stick to the meatball subs!! Good for you that you found something yummy!!

  • I've been going to Red Robin for cheeseburgers!  I take the top bun off and eat the rest with a fork BUT I do have a few of my hubby's fries with ranch dressing.  I also get a side salad.  My b/s is always pretty low for eating it (around 100-110).  It definitely satisfies me a lot!  

    Not magic?  I had my first soda in seven weeks (Dr. Pepper with lots of ice) and it spiked my b/s to 232...not surprising I guess.  For what it's worth - I got one with a purpose b/c I was soo constipated.  Dr. Pepper helps things to move along for me and since my prune juice and Colace weren't doing me any favors, the Dr. Pepper sure did.

  • Panda Express but with mixed veggies instead of white rice. Great numbers.

    Most Mexican food.

    Apparently, a small DQ butterfinger blizzard is also not entirely detrimental to my fasting numbers. I had one on Saturday evening since I have been so good fully expecting to be way over on Sunday morning but my fasting number was 91 and I frequently range up to 95 with much, much less offensive items (eg PB and multigrain crackers). Score!
