Re-Post: EBF and Zoloft?

Any EBF moms taking Zoloft or any other antidepressants care to share their thoughts on effects on baby?

I have been prescribed a 25 mg dose and have done a little research, but I am hesitant to start it.  My doc says it should be fine, but because there haven't been any studies done she isn't 100%.  I really think the meds will help but I want to feel a little more comfortable.

 Any thoughts?

    I took Lexapro but similar medication. I EBF for 14 months. My son had no issues and still does not. He was a preemie and only about 4.5 lbs when I started meds. We were watched closely by both my OB and his pedi due to his size but everything was fine. I still contend it was the best decision I made for myself and my son. Good luck to you!

    I took Zoloft and Wellbitrin while EBF and noticed no effects on my LO even when they played around with my dosing. If anything he was happier, because I was finally starting to feel better and his mood was also more relaxed.

    I now take 100mg of zoloft plus a higher dose of wellbutrin. Good luck with your decision.

    I'm on Zoloft & BFing. I started on 25 mg, then went up to 50 and I'm about to go up to 100 mg. Ellie is 9 months now and doing very well. I was also super reluctant to start it, but I'm really, really glad I did. I talked with multiple doctors (my OB, E's pedi, my psychiatrist) before starting. GL with your decision, and remember, its your decision.

    I am also extremely hesitant to start taking it.  My OB gave me the rx for 50mg when my baby was 4 weeks old and I never started taking it.  She's 3 months now, and I am doing better, but sometimes I wonder if taking it would help me.  I think if I wasn't breastfeeding and felt just like I do, I'd take it without question.  But I'm still just so hesitant.  Confused
