Babies on the Brain

I'm getting text messages to buy GS cookies

A coworkers is apparently texting everyone in her contact list to buy cookies from her step kids. Her message is so long that it came in 2 parts. And now she's apparently forgotten who she has sent it to because I just got it again.

Whatever happened to a casual "oh, hey cookie time. I've got the sheet if you're interested"? My mom had to actually talk to her coworkers to sell cookies for me Stick out tongue

It is here apparently. I saw them in 5 different spots selling them last weekend. When I was a scout I'm pretty sure we sold them in late winter/early spring but they changed it apparently.

  • Yeah, I thought it was like Feb/March.  I'd buy some now, though!

I despise parents that do this. They are supposed to be learning from the process- handing mommy the sheet and having her do it so you can sell more isn't the lesson they are aiming for. Parents that do it for the kids are doing them a disservice.

I also refuse to ever buy unless the child asks me personally. If it's that important that you sell them, it's important enough for you to do your own work for it.

In general, I am this way, however last year it backfired and I never got any freaking GS cookies. I kept meaning to buy them from the kids in front of the grocery store but was always in a rush/didn't have cash. I'll buy a few boxes off a coworker this year just in case.

I pretty much agree with you. My parents took the forms to work but at the time they both worked at places where I couldn't go walk around and ask. But they didn't push them and really only had them for people they were friends with who knew I was a scout and would ask. But for the most part I did all the work myself - walking the neighborhood and stuff. Plus the troop had a booth at the mall during farm show weekend (yeah, yeah, I know lol) and my mom (troop leader) and one or two other moms were always there keeping an eye on everything but we had to talk to people, get their orders, handle the money (with a parent keeping an eye on it when we were younger), and give them the cookies and say thank you.

Anymore I feel like parents do all their kids fundraisers for them. There's another girl at work who has been pushing chocolate bars for her dd's cheerleading fundraiser - the kid is a freaking high school junior. Make her do it herself!

Though last weekend I did pick up a box of cookies from a troop of daisys (because they were so dang cute) but the moms there coached the little girls through all the steps and had them do everything themselves. It was very good to see.

  • I sincerely hope that it's GSC time again.  You all have no idea the level of importance those things have in our house.   It gets to the point where MH and I hide boxes from each other.   It's quite sad actually.  lol

  • DH was mad at me the other day because I (politely) refused GS cookies when our neighbor kid came around selling.

I'd actually prefer to just give them the money and not get cookies because those things are evil damn it. 2 cookies is a serving size my ass. I really don't care if I get them or not.

I know, I know. It was just extra "tough" because I had been eating really healthy and it was the first real pregnancy craving I had. :P
