Starting off, BIL is a nice enough guy. BUT, he is passionate about college football and particularly Alabama, and they're playing the Florida Gators tonight. He's been posting comments about the "gaytors" all night and it's been mildly annoying me. He then posts, "Really classy gaytors, let's throw a punch, well take touchdown off that stupidity," which was my last liberal-minded straw. I commented, "No more classy than making homophobic slurs
" and he replied, "I have nothing against gay people, I'm not homophobic, just how I title the team."
Half of me wants to let it go, leave it alone and keep the peace. The other half wants to ***-slap him in type and explain that he is calling them gay with the subtext that it is insulting, shameful and makes them lesser people, which means he is in fact being homophobic in this instance and he should STFU. Talk me off my ledge and tell me to leave it alone.
Re: NBR- Facebook- overstepping bounds?
Technically, "gay" also means "happy." So they could also be the Happytars.
I realize that is dumb-sounding, and I am all for not throwing around the word "gay," but it seriously seems like you're splitting hairs.

I agree with this.
This...for sure!
I would have read that and been a bit annoyed too, but if he's not a complete jerk IRL, he probably means nothing by it. Sticks and stones, ya know? You're not his Mom so you can't tell him how to speak or what to post on FB. You shared your 2 cents... block him if it bugs you that much.
