Welcome to the Plus Size check-in. This will be a weekly check-in, on Sunday. If you would like the check-in to be more frequent, please let me know. This is an open check-in. Anyone can join at any time. My only suggested criteria be that you consider yourself "plus size". I know this can mean a lot of thing to a lot of different people. Here are some questions to help you decide if you will benefit from this check-in.
Do you more frequently than not shop in the Plus Size or Women's Department? (Not Missus)
Do you feel you are not receiving fair or adequate attention from your OB or RE?
Are you having a hard time finding a Dr who will work with your weight?
Do you often have questions you think ladies of "average" weight will not understand?
Are you having a hard time finding a diet/exercise program that works for you?
If you think you can benefit from this check-in feel free to respond below and tell us your story. If you would like to bring this check-in to another board, please do. I would suggest linking it to this original post. You also do not HAVE TO be TTC. TTA, TAB and everything in between is welcome.
So ladies, tell me, what was the best part of your week? The worst? Anything weight related you would like to talk about? (Diets you tried or saw you want to talk about? Any workouts you love or hate? etc...) Do you have any plans for the upcoming Wave of Light?
QOTW: When do you turn your heat back on?
Re: *~*~*~*~Plus Size Check-in*~*~*~*~
Well the best part of my week was having 3 days off with DH. The worst? Probably today, it's my Monday.
The Wave of Light I usually just light a candle. I don't usually do anything special, maybe have a drink.
I am currently trying to figure out when to turn my heat on. DH wants to wait until the end of October, but not sure that will happen. I don't like being cold.
I still haven't made an appointment with either of the clinics I contacted. I keep saying maybe I will lose a little weight before I go, yet I never seem to. Maybe I will go back to waiting until after the New Year.

Well, the best part of my week was yesterday. We had an excellent family day of apple picking with DSS's and some friends of ours.
The worst part was a mutual ending of a friendship that had gone downhill since we lost Brendan. She had tried to relate to me several times without thinking of what she was saying. There was no way she could relate, she never experienced a loss. I called her on several things she said and how they hurt me, and now SHE is hurt because I have remained distant. I'm not losing anymore sleep over her crap. Oh, all that and AF showed up today. Ugh.
QOTW - Its been so humid, rainy and sticky around here, we still have had our AC on. (I'm in MA). We will probably start turning it on towards the end of October. My stepkids like blankets, so luckily I don't have to listen to "we're cooooold" lol. We have a fireplace too, but we have to get it cleaned before we can use it this year.

UM, apple picking sounds fantastic! I would love to go. First, I don't know where I would go. Second, DH does not like apples all that much (lame, right!?).
I'm sorry about your friend. I lost a lot of friends after my loss, one of them I just started talking to again in May or so. You are doing the right thing for you, just take care of yourself. Maybe you two will re-connect one day.

Hey there! I don't really know if I have a worst part of the week. My best was when my friend stopped by for the night. She lives hours away and we rarely see each other, so it's always nice when we have visits!
I ate horrid this week. Chinese buffet. Pizza. Fast food twice. Oh yeah, it was bad. I am afraid to weigh myself.
As for the wave of light I don't do anything too special. We have a special candle for Aurora that we also light on her birthday.
We actually turned our heat on today. It's 45 degrees outside and even with the windows closed, it was a bit chilly! So we turned it back on to warm up the place, then shut it off.
I've been thinking about this for a little while. I think I might go talk to my PCP about it. Then check to see what/if I can do it. But i'm honestly thinking about the lap band. I'm not getting pregnant any time soon, and maybe the weight loss will help. What do you ladies think about it? Do you think it's giving in? Do you think it's unnecessary?

I love apple picking!!! We're probably going to go in 2 weeks. I'll make some applesauce and some pies as well as have some to eat.
Sorry about CD 1 and your friend.

Oh man, I ate really bad this week too! In my defense, AF was here, I gotta give the b!tch what she wants.
As far as the lap band goes. Here is how I feel. I always looked at it as a last resort. If I couldn't lose the weight, maybe I would look into it more. I have also been thinking about it for several years. The biggest problem I see (besides the price, my insurance will not cover it) is you have to wait at least a year after the procedure to get pregnant. Now I know a year is not a long time, and the sooner you do it the sooner you could TTC, but a YEAR!!!?
Maybe you should make a consult appointment, see what you think after that. My exMIL's husband had gastric bypass. Granted I didn't stick around to see the end result, but he was in some pain for a long time. There was a huge list of things he couldn't eat, he looked sick all the time.
I tried Phentermine a few years ago (right before I got KU) and it worked very well. I lost over 70 lbs in the span of a year. I have since gained all of it back, plus some. Now I can't find a Dr. to prescribe it for me. It is not good to be on if you get KU (one of the reasons I think I had a mc).
Tell me about WW, I have been thinking about joining, but I can't seem to commit

The low light of my week was a lot of drama with my IL. DH and I have been very anxious because of stuff that is going on, and both of us got snappy with one another.
Best part of my week was a really good experience at work that reminded me that what I am doing is where I am suppose to be.
I am addicted to food, and I realize that and I eat my feelings. So, with the stress this week I did not track all my points for Weight Watchers like I was suppose to. I weigh in tomorrow morning and I am nervous.
We are going to try to hold out on heat as long as we can this year. Because of DH's job we do not pay for our utilities, but we still try to use as little as possible. We have a fireplace in the living room so we are going to try to use that as much as possible. So we are hoping to make it to Nov. with out heat.... lol
Well the best part of my week would probably be getting to spend all day yesterday with DH without having to do a million other things. The worst part has been most of the week from fleas. Our furbaby got some fleas and we have been trying to get rid of them. I think we finally got rid of most if not all (yay especially since I'm allergic to fleas). I have been thinking about doing weight watchers again because the last couple times I did I was able to lose some weight. If I do I will prob just do it on my own because I still have one book and don't really want to spend more money then I have to (since I already know how it works. I wasn't sure what the wave of light was so I looked it up and I will probably just light a candle, I'm not really sure what else to do.
QOTW: I'm not really sure when we'll turn the heat on. The apartment normally stays pretty warm, and really I prefer to be cool when I go to bed (I can't sleep if I'm too hot). So maybe the last of October or Mid November depending on if it really gets that cold up here.
I just wanted to let you know to make sure you get a good doctor. My mom had that and she lost weight but ended up having to get it off because it caused her stomach to flip and she couldn't hold anything down. Also she ended up (sorry for TMI) vomiting after every meal, Plus she had to keep going to get it refilled tighter or something when she did stop losing weight. After she got it off she started gaining weight again and eventually had her stomach stapled for the gastric bypass. I don't mean to scare you, I just don't want anyone to have the same trouble she had. It just didn't seem worth it.
A year!! I didn't realize it was a year after the procedure. I say that I don't think I can wait that long, but i'd hate to have a year of TTA... i'd rather try and fail than that.
I always looked as it as a last resort to. I don't know...
WW is nice. I like going to the meetings and having the accountability. I hate the $40 a month to go. I loved my leader, so that helped a lot. When I tracked I usually did a good job. The part I hated, was when I'd track and have a WONDERFUL week... but not lose a single pound when I went to the meeting. That would usually make for a not so good week the next week.
With the new program, I had a BOAT LOAD of points! Too many and it was hard to eat them all. I did lose eating that much... but it was just odd.

I had weight loss surgery about 10 years ago, back then the lap didn't exist. If it had, I would have opted for that. I went in expecting to have the gastric bypass, but since my insides were backwards my surgeon could not safely do it, so he stapled my stomach. It does exactly what the lap band does, but its permanent. I'm more than happy to talk about my experience over the years, so feel free to PM me if you want to chat

Best part of the week: Can't think of anything.
Worst part of the week: Realizing that I may be back to a point where I should get into therapy stat.
Weight Related: I am getting back on the diet and exercise horse hardcore this week. Hoping it will help keep my mind off stuff. Workouts I love would be 30 Day Shred by Jillian Michaels and running. Running has become very therapeutic to me!
Wave of Light: My plans? Surviving it.
I'm on the fence about whether or not I will out myself on FB. I'm thinking it might not be the best idea since my sister will have just had her son like 9 days prior.
QOTW: My heat usually goes back on sometime in late November or early December. I live in AZ, so it takes a long time to cool down in the fall! I'm so ready for pant weather too!

I just got off Phentermine not that long ago myself. I lost about 35 pounds on it before my doc pulled me off due to BP issues (it caused my BP to drop too low for some reason.) I've continued my meal plan and have lost an additional 15 pounds so far so that puts me at 50 pounds lost since May. I am getting back on my diet and work out routine this week. Can I ask what might have caused you to gain the weight back? I'm terrified I will gain it back even though I watch what I eat like a hawk and work out 5-7 days a week now.
