Pregnant after a Loss

Changing pad position ques

DH and I had agreed to get the Ikea Hemness dresser and put the changing pad on top. That way, the changing pad would be horizontal to me and I would have room next to it for any extra supplies.

Now he is thinking of getting a separate changing table (or one of those attached to the end of the crib) because he thinks the changing pad should be vertical to me. I'm not sure if I like the looks of that.

So, which way do you change your LO? With the changing pad horizontal or vertical to you?

Re: Changing pad position ques

  • With the chaning table its horizontal but any time I change them on the floor it's vertical so the fit in between my legs. It's really fine either way but tell him you don't need both.

  • From what I hear, you may not always change them at the changing table (especially if the nursery is on a different level of the house from the primary living areas).  So really it's a waste of money to buy a separate changing table...and the cribs with a changing table attached just aren't my style.

  • Whatever way you have it is the way you'll get used to, and the way you prefer.

I have a beautiful changing table in the nursery,,,it's been used less than 10 times. The reason is, you end up changing the baby in the room you hang out the most. I had wonderful visions of LO sleeping peacefully in her crib.....bwhahahaha. Yeah....

We co-sleep, so her nighttime changing table is my bed ( so much easier to not get up in the middle of the night), and her daytime changing table is the PNP in tha family room.

Instead of having two changing areas in the same room, invest in 2 of these. Put a few diapers and wipes in it, and have on in your room, and one in a family room so you can change anywhere. I just put a blanket or burp cloth under her in case there are any "changing" accidents.

  • Sorry if my post wasn't clear. It will not be both, but one (dresser w/changing pad horizontal) or the other (separate changing table/attached to crib vertical).

She will be in a co-sleeper in our room for the first few months and DH thinks it will be a piece of cake to just bring her into the other room and change her every single time. Hah!

It looks like we'll probably need something more portable for now but it looks like a dresser with a changing pad on top in her room would make more sense, when the time comes.

  • The changing table attached to the crib is not recommended.  When baby gets older, it's a potential risk that the baby could use it to climb out of the crib and fall.

FWIW, we have a changing pad on top of the dresser and have changed DS elsewhere in the house maybe 10 times.  We had him in our room with us for the first month and went across the hall to his room to change him.  Once they get mobile, you can't just have diapers, wipes, and other supplies laying around the house.

  • We have it set up horizontally in the nursery but we don't really go in there yet b/c it's upstairs. We use the PNP changing table in the living room and it's vertically. I think it would work fine either way.

This is pretty much what we did with our DD, that and our bed, it was just more practical in the middle of the night when she was in the bassinet by our bed.  I think whatever is more comfortable for you though.

Oh and luvmyducks...Kellen is so cute, your pictures all make me smile, she is gorgeous.

  • I actually do a little of both depending on what position is better for what I am trying to wipe and if I need to see better at a different angle. We still use the changing pad on top of the PNP, so I can go back and forth in one change.
