TTC After a Loss

Weird, ongoing pain in my side?

I'm kind of starting to worry about this...I have this weird ongoing pain in my left side, which is the side I would have ovulated from this month also.  It sort of feels like the twinge you get when you feel ovulation, but it just is there every day.  It's not constant, but off and on all day.  I'm getting worried that it may be a cyst forming or something else bad.  I've never really had anything like this before.  I am going to see if I can get in to see a doctor next week to get it checked out, but I wondered if you all had any experience with anything like this?

Re: Weird, ongoing pain in my side?

  • I have been having the same thing.  I spoke to my OB about this and he said that if it feels like O pain, it is likely follicles maturing (or beginnings of ovarian cysts).  He told me that when your HCG drops suddenly , like after mc, the body goes into overdrive and can cause maturation of extra follicles/or large cysts. It does not mean that you will necessarily drop extra eggs though.  There are plenty of other things that can cause this pain as well like UTI, small kidney stones, and the shift of your uterus back into normal physiologic position after mc etc.  If it is really bothering you-see your OB asap (or next week).  I'm just waiting it out because it's not especially painful and I have felt this pain before when I O.  Hope you feel better!

  • Thanks so much for the info.  I guess I better make a doctor appointment next week.  I just knew it seemed odd and from what little I've heard about cycts, it seemed like a possibility.   Hopefully not...but I'll go find out for sure!  Luckily mine isn't too painful either...mostly just annoying and uncomfortable.

  • Agree that a call to the dr is essential. Not to say worst case scenario, but I have had pain like that since I have been of bc with it slowly getting worse. I had a lap 2 weeks ago and my RE found mild endo, which was removed, no cysts were found and for the last two weeks I haven't felt much. It is still there but is now more of a dull ache now instead of it registering on the pain meter. GL to you!

  • FX for you that all's well! I have PCOS, and one thing that is supposed to help cure it is pregnancy. After my m/c I've had pretty normal cycles, which is saying a lot considering I used to skip months at a time. That being said, it's pretty uncommon for women to develop something like PCOS after a m/c, but getting a couple of cysts isn't unheard of. If you've gotten one (or more) they should go away on their own. GL!
  • I had a similiar pain for about 3 months after my m/c. Fortunately, I worked in a radiology office and they did a an u/s and CT scan on me during down time. They never really found anything wrong at all. Possibley a tiny cyst, but nothing of concern. (They were able to see I was contsipated, which was the big laugh around the entire office, but at least I got free scans) My GP thinks it was probably just my body regulating itself once again. I was also on BC pills for 6 years straight right before I had my BFP. So my system was all wonked out from the artifical hormones and m/c. Hopefully it's nothing serious for you too.
