I had my first IUI on Saturday. Today I went back into the office for bloodwork. They told me they were testing my estrogen and progesterone. I got a call this afternoon saying to call back because they want to supplement my progesterone. I got the message late an the office was already closed. So, I have to call tomorrow.
I know that this may be a totally newbie question (which is okay because I am one) but why would they have to supplement my progesterone? Also, what form will this supplementation take. I heard that progesterone is given in shot form. I hate needles and don't know if I will be able to give myself shots.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Re: Progesterone After IUI?
I use Crinone after IUI, which is a vaginal suppository. It's in an applicator basically like a tampon, and you insert it and squeeze the end to insert the gel. It thickens your uterine lining and although this happens naturally with pregnancy, it's basically an insurance policy lol to maintain pregnancy if it occurs, and basically creates a nice and cozy environment for the embie, if fertilization takes place
It is very easy to use and I experienced "phantom" pregnancy side effects- bloating, sore nipples, emo-ness, crazy dreams, cravings, nausea. It wasn't too bad though. I had to do the suppository once a day, in the morning.
This. The progesterone will help your lining so that implantation can occur.
