Was wondering what y'all think about using pediatrician vs family dr for baby. Also can anyone recommend a good pediatrician in the Lebanon area if that is the way I decide to go. Thanks!!
Check with your family doctor and make sure they'll take an infant. Some don't. The ones that do, usually accept but make sure you're aware that you may have to move to a pediatrician if specialized care is needed.
We've been taking DS to our family doctor. He is a fantastic doctor, well educated and has very good bedside manner. But, he informed us that he'll be retiring at the end of this month (he's still somewhat young so we weren't expecting that one). So, we're transferring DS to a pediatrician. If he wasn't such a good doctor, we would have just used a pediatrician from the start. I feel that they're better equipped to handle the multitude of questions that come up with infants. Plus, I like how a lot of them have "well-child" waiting rooms and "sick child" waiting rooms... so your un-vaccinated 2 week old doesn't have to sit with the kids that have a cold or the flu.
I don't know of any in the Lebanon area. I'm closer to Camp Hill. But, start off with a list of pediatricians that participate in your medical insurance. You might get a gleaming reference for a local pediatrician, but it's worthless if they don't take your insurance (unless you want to pay a ton out of pocket).
I heard great things about Dr. Otto on Cornwall Rd and Dr. Ewing on Tuck St. We take our DD to Hershey pediatric center on Chocolate Ave we love it there, we are also from the Lebanon area , its about 1/2 drive.
Re: pediatricians vs family doc
I think either way is acceptable.
