10 weeks and no heartbeat...

I just had my first OB appt at what I think is 10wks 2days & the doctor could not find the heartbeat. My uterus tilts back (I know this can make hearing the heartbeat harder early in the pregnancy) but I heard the heartbeat at 10 wks with both of my other daughters. How off the EDD would I have to be to not hear the heartbeat? I am freaking out & have to wait 2.5 weeks for another appt.

  • Don't panic!  I was 11 weeks before they could find a hb.  Might have just been where your baby was positioned or an anterior placenta.  You should def hear the hb in 2.5 weeks.  No stressing out allowed!

  • They didn't try an ultrasound?
  • Oh man 2.5 weeks is a long time to make you wait! Are they gonna do an u/s
i wish i could be joking but my dad is the music teacher at a church so he owuld be mad. we had sex, all the time how bad i know but we dont want to wait and he said GREAT OH KAY! and I was really feeling the wets? down there- too embarsed to say- but he acted like man.
  • At my first appointment I was suppose to be around 10 weeks. She tried to use the dop. on me to hear the hb, and found nothing, so they did a u/s, and found it that away. They pushed my due date back a week, and said i may have just ovulated a little late.

  • I wouldn't worry just yet.  I am twelve weeks with a tilted uterus and I haven't found the heartbeat on my doppler either.

  • Try not to freak out but two and a half weeks is a mighty long time. It could just be the position of the baby.

  • Don't stress. At my 10 week appointment the doc couldn't hear the heartbeat. Because of my history of m/c we did an ultrasound and the baby was moving all over the place. The tech said that was probably why the doc couldn't pick up the heartbeat in her office.

  • I'm sorry that you have to wait so long!! I would have stomped my feet and demanded an U/S!!  Usually they do that if they can't find baby on doppler! Hugs to you!

  • I would have asked for a ultrasound. But I'm sure it was just the position of the baby + uterus combo.

  • How nervewracking, but I'm sure you'll hear it soon. My MW couldn't find a heartbeat at my 9w6d appointment, but the baby was healthy with a beating heart at my u/s an hour later. Could you ask for an earlier u/s for peace of mind?

  • Don't worry about it, it's still early.  With DS we first heard the hb at 11 weeks and the doctor warned us that there was a 50% chance we wouldn't be able to hear it yet.  We did hear this one at 10 weeks but I knew going in that we might not.  Every pregnancy is different and when you heard the hb with the last two doesn't mean anything now.

  • Dont worry! I know plenty of people who couldn't hear the hb till 15 weeks!
    due april 10th :))
  • I'm sorry you have this stress! I would personally call and ask for an ultrasound for peace of mine. Two weeks is a long time to wait! It's likely that everything is perfectly fine as it's still early to pick up a h/b on a doppler.

  • Did they schedule an ultrasound? We had the same exact thing happen to us (also because of my tilted uterus) and they checked with a second ultrasound. All was well. Hope everything is fine with you and your LO. I think having a tilted uterus is a common thing; I've read about many moms on the boards having one or knowing someone who has one.

  • They should've have done an ultrasound. Even if it's too early to hear it, you could see it beating on ultrasound. I can not believe your doctor didn't offer this to you. I couldn't imagine having to wait 2 1/2 weeks. Crossing my fingers for you and your LO.

  • ::lurking::

My doctor couldn't find the heartbeat at my 12w3d appt (even though I had heard it earlier at home). She did an ultrasound in the office so I wouldn't freak.  You could always call & ask for an earlier appt.

  • If they didn't give you an US there, then why not go to the ED and have one?  I totally would.  If there is or isn't a HB, this should show up on the US.  If it was me, there's no way i'd wait another 2 1/2 weeks to see if there's any change.

  • No need to worry, at 10 weeks the doctor could not get a hb with the dopler for me. I received an u-s and got to hear the hb. I measured exactly 10 weeks.

  • My perinatologist and OB agree that the doppler in my OBs office probably won't be able to hear a heartbeat until after 12 weeks.  I understand your worry, though.  Good luck and I know it's easier said than done, but try not to wory too much for the next couple of weeks.
