Baby Names

Virtues as baby names?

I'm just curious to see what the popular opinion on this is.

Names like Serenity, Faith, Honor, Patience, and Prudence - I just...can't see it. Prudence is a guilty pleasure because of the nn Pru, but I still wouldn't name any theoretical daughter of mine that.

  • When paired with the right FN and LN, they can work, under the right circumstances.

It's not really a virtue, but if we have another girl, her MN will be Hope, simply because hope is all that kept us going after our loss.

  • I love Honor (Honora is at the top of my list right now), but I can't really think of another one I like as much. I don't dislike any of them either.

  • Mine is one....Chasity....so I think there are worse things you could do.  I actually really like Serenity- though more from the show Firefly and the subsequent movie Serenity than the meaning.  I'm also really into meanings and religious so I like most virtue names.

  • I think they're fine as middle names, but don't like them as first names.

  • I'm really not a fan. I know it's not the intention at all, but when I see Serenity, I think stripper. Names like Faith, Honor, Hope, and Prudence are just NMS.

  • Grace is another one.
  • Some of them are good as middle names, but I cannot really get on board with most of them as first names.

  • I love the name Hope, but none of the others do anything for me.

  • Love them- as middle names. DD's mn means "charity." It was never on the table as a first name, though.

  • I love them, serentiy is on our list, I wish there were some similar that were used more for boys. I have a great friend named Grace, and have known wonderful Faith's and Charity.... all of which loved their names.

  • I've always liked Faith, but that's about it. No idea if I'd ever use it, though. More likely as a mn than a fn.

  • Hate this. I also hate it when people name their children after months or seasons of the year (e.g., April, September, Winter, Summer...)
