be home before and after school and available for afterschool activities every day, plus have holidays and weekends off (pro, better/more interesting job, 8hr day, regular schedule, kids not rotating afterschool care, con-5d/wk. having to take time off or missing school midweek functions, may have to switch one afterschool class to a later time)....

or work longer hours, shorter week, basically not seeing the kids for 3 days a week... with weekend and holiday requirements. pro being able to arrange the schedule for school field trips and volunteering in the classroom. con, working holidays.

First option. I'd rather have a regular routine that works 90% of the time with a day off here or there to do a mid-week school function than have a harder schedule (weekends, holidays and longer hours) just to be able to go on the occasional field trip without using a vacation day.
