Trying to Get Pregnant

Normal periods, no LH surge

My husband and I having been TTC for about 5 months now...the last 3 months I have used an ovulation detection kit and it has never detected an LH surge...my periods are normal and I'm not sure if I'm even ovulating...planning on making an appointment with my obgyn this month.

Re: Normal periods, no LH surge

  • Have you been testing 2x a day? Sometimes you can miss the surge. For instance this cycle I tested around 10am and it was negative, then again at 4pm and it was positive, then I tested again to see if it was still there at 8pm and the surge was gone and it was negative. So if I hadn't tested a couple times a day, I would have missed it. Hope that helps!!

  • Thank you...that IS helpful...the first two months I was testing in the AM, and then this last month I decided to test later in the day, but I haven't tried 2X a day...I feel as though my husband and I are still having sex at least once a day during the 4-5 days I believe I normally would be ovulating and still no luck, so I am concerned.
  • Are you temping as well? I'm not but have heard how helpful it is to confirm when you ovulate. You could be ovulating at a different time than you think. I'm not sure, i'm just trying to come up with answers to help :). I think what happened to me this cycle (if it's any help) is that I got the LH surge, but I don't think I ovulated (because it was only CD7. I think I ovulated around CD13, I remember a lot of cramping that day. So that is why next cycle I plan on temping to confirm O.

  • I would definitely start charting your temperatures and checking your cervical mucus. You could have a short LH surge and may just be missing it-temps and cm will tell you so much more.

    Good luck!

Definitely agree with this! The temps and CM make it so much easier to tell.

  • Thank you all for your comments and thoughts...I had done temps at one point and have been pretty successful in pin-pointing when I've ovulated in the past via temps, cervical mucus, cramping, etc...Just haven't been successful conceiving so far and thought the LH surge detecting would be an additional help to rule out possible complications that may be interferring...still no luck conceiving. Made an appointment with my doctor.
