Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Combo 1&2 birthday ideas

We are having a Yo Gabba Gabba themed birthday party for our two kids in November. DD is turning 2 in October and DS is turning 1 in December. Since we'd invite the same people and have the same theme, I decided to combine them.

We have a date and a location (church gymnasium) but I have no idea what actual THINGS to do during the party. DD's party last year was a pool party so it kind of filled itself in.

Any ideas for activities that are appropriate for a 1 year old AND a 2 year old party (kids attending range from 9 months to 4 years old)?

Thanks!!

Re: Combo 1&2 birthday ideas

  • So, the location is pretty much just a big room?  Not an indoor play place, your house?

I'm sorry, we have had 1 location party and the rest have been at our house with dinner.  We have never done games, the kids eat and play together.

I have Oct & Dec kids as well but feel it is a little odd to combine parties though there is a month in between.  Though at those ages neither will probably remember the party.

We are using a church gymnasium for the location.

I know Oct & Dec are a little far apart, but like you said, neither will remember and neither really know when their party is. When they get bigger and have their own friends, we'll separate the parties for sure, but it makes zero sense to have two separate parties with the exact same people 2 months apart.

    Obviously, your kids, your party.

It never occured to me to combine my kids parties but maybe because mine are 2 years apart, not one.  Next year would you still combine?  I see a need to have different parties (and yes, we invite the same family to both parties), they are different people.  It is not like their birthdays are 2 weeks or 2 days apart.  Good Luck!  I hope the party goes well.  I'd probably blow up balloons for everyone to play with at least.

Yeah, I know what you mean, "my kids my party = same people", but I mean like they aren't old enough to have their own friends yet. In a few years (1-3 years?) they might have their own friends and at that point they'll definitely be separate parties. For now, though, I figure it's not a problem to combine them. (Not sure what we'll do next year.)

Plus getting DS's party in November means (hopefully) that more people can come, since it won't be close to Christmas / "the busy season".
