I've never heard anyone say that HSBC was better in ANY way..haha! We started a Bank of America acct a couple of years ago and I just read today that they are going to start charging $5/month to use a debit card. a-holes.
Our savings account and mortgage are with First Niagara and while we liked Greater Buffalo Savings Bank better (they bought them out too) - we have been very happy with them.
I left Bank of America and joined Empower (DH had been a member there for years). We love it! We have had nothing but great experiences.
I have a Bank of America Credit Card that I have had forever, but we only use it in emergencies or to book things. We have used it a little this past month, since I am on maternity leave, but it will get paid off next month when I start receiving increased pay .
I would never, ever do business with Bank of America again. They are just idiots.
We bank with Alliance Bank and love them. I mostly go to the same branch and all the ladies know T by name and can answer all of my questions quickly and easily.

I might be bias, since I work there... but check out Citizens. Starting tomorrow they are doing a credit card offer for 0% interest on all balance transfers AND purchases for 12 months. Even if you don't carry a balance normally, you can use it for Christmas or even keep as an emergency card w/out worrying about interest.
Not sure exactly what you are looking for... most banks offer similar products/services and benefits. What exactly does HSBC have that FN doesn't?

LOL, I had the same thought, I hate HSBC. It's the only bank in our little town and the hours are horrible. (Not all HSBC's, just ours, they close at like 1 every day)
We use a credit union. I think that's a comfort level though because I used to work at one so I know their policies and how they work...we use SEFCU.

I am actually about to close my own account at Citizens. I don't use it often but my money is dwindling quickly with the new $3 per month statement fee, for an acount that has only 1 or 2 small transactions a month. I have tried to use the online statements, but kept having to jump through hoops calling customer service to reset my password because it kept telling me my account was compormised or something. It was an hour long process every time I tried logging in, it has been a while, maybe 3-4 yrs since I tried now.
We have a Premier account with HSBC. We just cashed in our reward points for $1,600 Home Depot gift cards. We have some personal financial advisor guy and a ton of fee-less perks, like buying investments, no foreign exchange fees, instant card cancelation with next day replacement, things like that, that regular customers have to pay fees for. First Niagara doesn't have this program and their rewards programs isn't as good. We never carry a balance on our credit card, so interest rates on CC is irrelevant.
We use credit unions as well. I have 2 diffent accounts with 2 different unions and we have no fees. Overdraft protection is included and they have awesome hours. I will never go back to a bank again. Love the credit unions.
We just left citizens bank b/c their fees are outrageous. We overdrew b/c they ended up holding a deposted check that was written from another bank (for 7 buisness days). We overdrew 2 checks and they tacked on 159.00 in fees of their own. It was a complete mess. I was with them for years and didn't realize their fees were so high until we overdrew our account.
We don't use credit cards anymore but have a mastercard (I think it's HSBC) for emergencies. I can't recommend it b/c we rarely use it.
TTC since 6/2003. m/c 9/14/03 8 weeks, 5 chemical pregnancies, mmc 6/04 12 weeks, Michael born sleeping 5/25/05 at 22weeks always our angel, fought ovarian cancer and won, m/c 4/06 5.2 weeks and 7/07 6.6 weeks,Our Miracle baby girl born 4/8/10,mc 12/18/11 at 5.3 weeks, BFP 10/26/12 dating u/s on 11/8/12 showing a strong heartbeat!EDD July 4,2013. RCS on 6/27. Baby boy in NICU for 8 long and scary days before he was able to come home. We are now a happy family of 4
We have a credit union, but I am so-so on them. Although, I didn't realize all these other fee stuff at banks so maybe I like them more now.
As far as credit cards....we use rewards credit cards. The GM one is good if you want to be tied in to purchasing a GM vehicle. It is 5% on all purchases. Our absolute best card ever was the home depot card - 5 points/100 on all purchases plus double that on HD purchases. And then if you turned in the points for HD gift cards you got the best deal but they had tons of rewards. Sadly, they discontinued that one. Cash back, we have a citi credit card that used to be 5% on groceries, gas stations, and drug stores and 1% on everything else. Now the categories rotate every couple months and it is only 2% on the special category and 1% on everything else. We are considering dropping the GM one for an airline one, but haven't looked in to it yet.
