TTC After a Loss

Interesting...temps too low overall??

So I'm about to start seeing this reproductive acupuncturist and I had an initial consultation with her a few weeks back.  I showed her my chart history and she said that it looked like my temps were too low overall, both in the follicular stage and the luteal phase.  She said she wants to see a luteal phase temp average around 98.0 at least.  She's concerned that while it shows that I do ovulate, my hormones are probably still imbalanced.  (And in fact, I had low progesterone during both pregnancies so this seems to make sense.) She recommended some nutrition changes including warming and blood-building foods, etc.  All of which I really haven't gotten the hang of understanding yet, but I'm willing to try.

Just curious if any of you ladies have ever been told that your temps are too low overall and what advice you've been given about it.

Thanks!

PS. If anyone is interested, this is the patient handbook that explains more about the nutrition involved and lots of other stuff (link downloads a PDF).

Re: Interesting...temps too low overall??

  • Your temps look a lot like mine do. I've had two miscarriages over the course of the past 9 months. I haven't ever had my progesterone checked, so I don't know if that is the cause. I have also heard ladies talk about average temperatures being affected by their thyroid levels as well.

I'm printing off that handbook...it looks interesting!

  • I'm currently waiting for thyroid level results, and you might ask for a panel of that as well, which is a common cause of low body temperature.  Couldn't hurt to check either way.  My temperatures are just all over the place and lots of fluctuation.  stupid bodies.

  • I don't have any information for you, but I have noticed that my temps are pretty low overall as well. When I look at people's charts their temps are all in the 97-98 range, but mine were in the 96 range, until after ovulation, then they went up. I only temped for one month before becoming pregnant, so I'm not sure what they will do now. I mis-carried and am now back to temping again. They are still low now. I want to see what they will do during the luteal phase and when they drop when AF comes.

I'm going to check out that handbook. Thanks!

  • My temps are pretty standard but I wanted to say that I'm on a warmed food diet too per my acupuncturist's instructions. I haven't taken it too far.

Basically when I drink water, I do it without ice or without being refrigerated. I try to eat something warm for breakfast and lunch (I was usually already doing this for dinner.) Oh and no ice cream.

    Good luck!

  • This is interesting!  I seem to have pretty regular temps so far, but I'm going to look at this handbook anyway.  I even have a friend who I suspect may have lower temps over all too...I think I'll pass this along to her too.  Thanks!

  • I have low temps overall - in the 96-97.4 during follicular, 97.5-98.0 (the max & usually only once per cycle) during luteal.  I got my thyroid checked & it was in the normal range - TSH 1.62.  So, it wasn't that.

I'm going to get progesterone checked next week.

    Interesting info about the nutrition!

  • I have had the EXACT same experience!  Here's hoping we all figure out what's going on.
