3rd Trimester

Anyone have a tempur-pedic?

My DH and I are thinking of getting one this weekend. If you have one can you tell me what you think about it? Have you been able to sleep well while pregnant on it?
Do you get hot sleeping on it?

What kind do you have?

I have slept on them before and it was the best nights sleep ever but it was only for like 1-3 nights at a time. Its a big investment so just wanted to get your opinion. TIA.

Re: Anyone have a tempur-pedic?

  • We have had ours for a little less than 2 years now and I LOVE it! It definitely takes a little while to get used to and is a little warmer than a regular mattress because you sink in a little more.

That being said this time I've had such extreme back/hip pain that I haven't slept in my bed in 10+ weeks now....and I miss my bed!

Sorry, not exactly sure on which one we bought, I didn't want the pillowtop and it's not the cheapest or the most expensive....GL!

  • We have had ours several years so I don't remember the kind. DH used to biitch and moan that he would get too hot sleeping on it but I haven't heard him complain in a while. It is great for back sleeping and fairly terrible IMO for side sleeping. It makes pregnancy side sleeping extra miserable. I can't wait to be able to sleep on my back again.

  • My MIL has one in her guest room, and while I loved it in the past, when we were up there while I was around 25 weeks for 1.5 weeks, it was a little tough to sleep on, so I imagine I'd be even more uncomfortable in it now.  That being said- not pregnant it was the best nights sleep of my life, I usually look forward to visiting her just for the bed!!

  • We have one and love it. I will warn you, it does retain heat, so it can be warm to sleep on. I am usually cold, so it is not too much of an issue for me, but I always let people know that. I am pretty comfortable on it. That said, I still have a billion pillows around me to support the belly, etc just like most pregnant women do.

  • DH went out and bought one in hopes It would help my hips. We have the Deluxe model (its nice and firm which we both love, me much more when I'm not pregnant). I still haven't been able to really enjoy it because I can't lay on my sides and obviously not my back, DH loooooves it though! We haven't really had any issues with heat. One thing the sales person warned DH about was water getting on the mattress, apparently it breaks down the composition of the material. Part of the warranty is that a waterproof liner be used at all times, which we did (our was $180, not sure if that was on the expensive side)- until the baby is born, we're paranoid my water could breaking on it.

  • We have had ours about 3 years now.  Normally, I love it but just as others have said, the past few weeks my back and hips have started hurting so bad I cant sleep at all.

I put a waterproof pad on last weekend as well, just in case, but honestly, I have been spending more nights on the couch than in the bed.

  • We have a seally poster-pedic, not sure what the difference is?

But we love it and i sleep like a baby on it. I get hot sleeping but most women get hotter while pregnant.

  • I did a TON of research on beds recently because we switched from a Queen to a King and this is the one we ended up with - apparently its comparable to the Tempurpedic Grand.  It got really great reviews on Amazon and so far we love it.  Very comfy!

  • *lurking here (but I love my Tempur Pedic, so I HAD to comment!)

We've had our TP for about a year, and we LOVE it. Seriously, we kinda dread going anywhere and sleeping on any other mattress! :)

We have the Deluxe model. I've never had a problem with getting hot on it... my hubs is a "hot sleeper" and he's never complained about it either. I'm not very big yet, but I don't have a problem sleeping on it while pregnant. I'm usually a back or belly sleeper, (never my sides!) and I've not had a hard time transitioning to sleeping on my sides.

Make sure you get the mattress protector. Your warranty is void from day one without it. (our salesperson didn't tell us that... thankfully, we wanted one anyway) It was about $100. From talking to other people about their TP's, it seems like if you have a mattress protector, you don't get as hot. But... that might be crazy, I don't know. :)

I'll never have another kind of mattress... I love my Tempur Pedic!!

ETA: We opted not to get the TP pillows when we bought our bed... 3 months later, we HAD to get the pillows. Because of the difference in material, our heads were sinking down at a different angle than our bodies, and it made the bed almost uncomfortable. (I would end up tossing my pillow on the floor and just laying my head on the bed!) To each their own, but I strongly recommend the pillows! (seriously, you're paying a pretty penny for the bed... spend the extra $400 and get the pillows! **ours is king size, so our pillows were $200-$250 a piece)

  • We got one (I think it was one of the firmer "Clouds") in my first trimester.  We never get hot sleeping on it (though I was scared DH would be and then all that money would be a waste).  I love it.  Even went back for a few pillows.  I thinks its been a good investment.  It took a few days for the smell from the packaging to go away though.
  • We have had our TP for about 6 years and I love it.  When we sleep in other beds, it really makes us appreciate the one we have at home.  DH has a partial hip replacement, and the TP was the first bed (in 15 years) that allowed him to sleep on that hip.  It does get warm, but we also have a ceiling fan above the bed, which helps for me.  Prior to pregnancy, I was usually cold, so the warm was good for me, but my DH the human space heater does sweat a lot in it.  That is perhaps my only complaint about it.  I didn't like the TP pillows at first, but I place that one on bottom with a regular pillow on top, and it works for me.  I am almost 37 weeks and still able to sleep on it comfortably with just a body pillow for extra comfort.

  • We bought ours when I was almost 4 months pregnant because our old mattress was causing me to wake up crying with hip and shoulder pain. We got the classic bed with an adjustable base and they threw in the mattress protector and pillows of our choice. It is soooo much more comfortable for me now, but I can't wait to be able to sleep in it and not be pregnant because I know it will feel even better. It is warmer than a regular mattress, but I just use a sheet without a blanket and am just fine. It's so nice having the adjustable base because I can sleep on my back if I want because it is elevated, and it is very helpful for heartburn in the middle of the night. We love this bed and will definitely be tempur-pedic users for life!

  • I don't have a tempurpedic, but I do have a Nature's Rest (similar concept, made out of latex foam instead of whatever foam the tempurpedic is made out of).  When I bought it, it felt much more like a regular mattress than the tempurpedic - the Nature's Rest doesn't sink in as much, making it easier for side sleeping.

DH and I have been talking about upgrading to a king bed in the near future, and went to look briefly the other day.  The new tempurpedic's are more like a traditional mattress in feel (not sure how they would last all night, though).
