Trying to Get Pregnant

Should I call the doctor?

So when I was 19 my GYN told me I had PCOS which was diagnosed from an ultrasound, no blood work. At the time, and still, I have very regular periods and just thought I have cysts, no big deal I will just have some pain from time to time.

Now that I am TTC #1, I have become so much more informed and realized with no blood test, how does she know that's what was going on. I am scared that I am not ovulating and that I am going to spend an entire year trying to conceive with no luck. So my question is, should I just call the doctor now and request these blood tests to confirm or should I wait the usual year (hopefully not though) ???

Any input would be helpful :)

EDIT: I just started charting this month also, so that may give me some answers too.

  • You don't need a blood test to confirm ovulation. You can do it with temping your basal body temp. Check out the tutorials on FertilityFriend.com and start.

Have you already had your annual check up with Gyn? Maybe when you go for your PAP next time you could ask the doctor about PCOS, and if they would like to do any tests etc.

Yea I did :( I just started temping so I am going to see how that goes for a few months. I'm thinking maybe I will still make an appointment in January anyways. Thanks for the advice!

this. I was dx with PCOS at age 15 and put on BCP. If you were never medicated and have regular periods on your own, you are probably fine. But it would be good to chart so you can see if you are ovulating on your own. If you are, then no worries! Good luck to you.

  • Are your periods coming regularly? Normally if you have PCOS you will have long cycles (ie less than 9 periods a year). If your cycles seem somewhat normal I would try temping and give it some time.

  • My periods are very regular... that is why I opted not to take BCP. Thanks for the advice girls, I am going to see what charting shows me!
