Baby Names

i really like

Adelyn

I know everyone hates the random Ys in exchange for Is, but I'm totally in love with this name. I don't really scare about the spelling. My favorite baby name for most of my life was Madeleine, but now that's the name of a girl who works for me, so this seems like a suitable substitute

  • What exactly are you looking for with this post? (i.e. support, approval, suggestions, etc.)

Adelyn is a derivative of the names Adelaide and Adeline (pronounced a-duh-LEEN or AD-uh-line). In other words, it's made up. And I don't doubt that it was made-up as a substitute/alternative to Madeleine. Regardless, I don't care for it. Sorry.

  • I like it best of all the names you posted on 1st Tri.  But I'm still not really a fan.

  • Are you sure you don't just want to go with Madeleine?  Unless the employee has given the name a bad association for you, why drop your life-long favorite name?  And the employee might be with you for a year or two.  Your baby will have her name for life!

Clearly the employee is not going to think you named the baby after her.  Just pull her aside a few weeks before you're due and say, "I've always loved the name Madeleine, and I'm thinking of naming my baby that.  Do you like your name?"  That way she'll know in advance in a fairly subtle way.

You're right! I apologize. Adelyn is the most darling name I've ever heard. You should definitely use it if you love it. In fact, Adelyn Madeleine would be a great combination AND you would get to use both of the names you adore (on top of that, it's definitely a name that's not "stereotypical"). I say go for it, and good luck to you! Stick out tongue
