DS will not stop crying!

Please help.  My son started whining about 8 o'clock last night and would only stop if we held him.  He did it all night long (literally) and my MIL just called and said he is still doing it.  He isn't really drinking any bottles either.  He doesn't have a fever and he is not vomiting.  I put in a call with his pedi and am waiting for him to call back.  In the meantime, I wanted to see if any of you experienced this before.  I am thinking he has an ear infection, but he doesn't seem to be crying in pain, and he isn't pulling on his ears.  Any experiences that you could share would be great.

Re: DS will not stop crying!

  • DS got ear infections every month for 5 months until he got tubes and his adenoids removed. Not one of those times did he pull, tug, rub or even touch his ears. He had a cold usually and about half the time no fever. Did he get any sleep last night? Besides possibly being sick if he didn't sleep he's probably whining now because he's exhausted. Could also be teething. Have you tried motrin or tylenol?

  • Could it be teeth? If Jay was crying that long I may try giving tylenol. I would think he was in pain. I would go with what the pedi says. But my guess is gas or teeth.
  • I gave him Motrin last night and MIL gave him Tylenol today.  He went to sleep for a second both time, and then woke up about an hour later whining again.  His pedi called back and he said it sounds like an ear infection (my MIL said his nose is running).  I am about to take him to urgent care in a sec.

Good luck. We are dealing with both right now (ear infection & teething). Hope LO is feeling better and sleeping in no time!
  • Good luck - keep us posted!

  • You ladies were right, he has an ear infection.  Now he is on Azithromycin for the next 5 days.  I hope this passes soon, because he seems so miserable.

It's amazing how different doctors give different meds. I'm on Azithromycin. JT was put on Amoxicillian (sp?) twice per day for 10 days. I wish it were the other cause 5 days is nice and short!

I had to call on-call nurse last night and a little tid bit she gave me - have LO sleep elevated. We put the crib wedge back in last night. GL!!

I thought the same thing! When I read Azithromycin I thought "holy crap they gave a baby that!" Although Simon got to where the only thing that worked for him was Suprax, which was something like $70 per 10 day dose, WITH insurance.

RHitch, I really hope your little one is feeling better today and you both get some rest!
