Baby Names

NN for Cassandra

I?m not having any more children for quite a while because my DD is only a month old but I just wanted to ask out of curiosity.

My FI loves the names Cassandra, I have no idea why. He?s still trying to persuade me round to the idea of it but I just don?t like it and I don?t like Cassie either for a NN. Are there any other NN?s for it, if there?s nice one?s I might get swayed round eventually :-p

Re: NN for Cassandra

  • Cassie is definitely the most intuitive NN--I'm with you, I don't like Cassie (particularly with Chloe)

I'd go ahead and veto it.

  • I guess you could do Sandra or Sandy, or just Cass, but I'm not loving any of them. I also don't like Cassandra with Chloe - not a cute sibset IMO. Since you don't love it, I'd keep looking...

Kassie isn't so bad.  I had a class in college with a girl named K'Ssondra.  Wrap your noggin around that one.  I saw the class roster once, that's exactly how it was spelled.

When I first saw her write it down, I thought she was spelling it phonetically (or attempting to) to make sure we knew it was Cah-SONdra, not Cah-SAANdra.  Nope.  K'Ssondra.

  • I think Andie or Andi would be a cute nn for Cassandra.  I like Casey also, but that's apparent from my siggy.  We're naming our little girl Kacie (I quite like it with a K instead of a C!  It's more girly!)

  • I'm a Cassandra and go by Casy (pronounced Casey).  I get called Cassie a lot.  I actually do not like Cassandra.  It's too formal and do not like having a formal name and nickname.  It wasn't annoying when I was younger, but now as an adult it's a pain.  One exacple is my work email must be cassandra as it's my legal name, but I go by Casy and it throws everyone off.

  • Well, my name is Cassandra, and I go by Cassie. With my family and friends, it's usually just Cass. That sounds odd when I write it but it works for me. I sometimes find it weird if I just hear someone call me Cassie. Other nn I've encountered in my life are Casey, Sandy, Sandra, Andra, Cathy(?). She probably would get the "teasing" nn's too, like the rhyming. Gassy Cassie, Classy Cassie, Sassy Cassie. Ha.
