Trying to Get Pregnant

Tell me your Clomid stories

The good, the bad, and the ugly. OB put me on Provera yesterday to bring on AF, then CD 5-9 of 50mg Clomid. I wanna know what to expect, because my only experience has been one friend turning into a fire breathing dragon, basically. TIA!

Re: Tell me your Clomid stories

  • I'm on my 3rd Clomid cycle (50 mg).  The first month thinned my lining, second month it was still thin but getting better, this month my lining is nice and thick.

Remember to take the pill at night (this helps cut down on the side effects as you sleep through them).  I did still have mood swing and hot flashes.  I've also gained 5 lbs but I'm not sure if this is directly related to Clomid or just the stress of IF (I'm an emotional eater).

As for advice, make sure  you are being monitored (regular u/s).

     GL.

After 15 cycles and 3 rounds of clomid (50mg) we got our BFP.

  • I also do not recommend being on Clomid without monitoring from an RE.

I did not have a horrible experience taking it.  I had some hot flashes and moodiness (like crying over random and stupid things) but when I was done with the 5 days of pills I didn't experience any more symptoms.  I recommend drinking a LOT of water and taking it before bed.

While it does have some annoying s/e, Clomid worked very well for me this month.  I had a 24mm follie and my lining was thick as well so I am willing to put up with it again.  The only other issue I had is that it negatively affected the quality of my CM so I did have to have IUIs.  Good luck!

  • I had one round of 50mg Clomid and thankfully got pregnant from that with DD.  I also recommend taking it at night with lots of water to help with some symptoms.  I didn't not do this and wish I did.  I had a little bit of an upset stomach but that was it.  DH and I are starting TTC next month and I am really worried it will take more than one round this time.  GL!

  • Thank you for sharing! Just some background: I have mild PCOS and have only had 2 AFs in the past year without the help of Provera; have had 3 with the Provera for a total of only 5 AF the entire year. I'm on 500mg Metformin as well. He basically said that he would put me on the Clomid this cycle, hoping it would kick start ovulation. He did not discuss any future/long term Clomid plans. I probably should have clarified that in my first post. He also drew 3 vials of blood for testing, so when he calls with the results on Monday, I will ask him for an RE referral/more clarification on Clomid usage.

This is off topic, but I just had to say that your DD is absolutely ADORABLE!!!

  • I am currently on my 1st cyle of clmoid. I am being monitored by my RE which is highly recommended.

I have had a few hot flashes here & there but nothing crazy. However, last Friday, which was 4 days after I finshed my last pill I turned into a lunatic. I could not control my emotions and was feeling very depressed. Lasted a few days and then I woke up Monday morning feeling great! I have to admit it was a little scary and I know I definately scared my DH.

The upside is though I am finally ovulating! I went in for an ultrasound Tuesday morning and I had one large follicle measuring 19 mm and my lining was good. I now have had two days in a row now of + OPKs and an abundance of EWCM. So now we wait and see if this will be a successful cycle!

    Best of luck to you!

  • I didn't have any lining issues, and responded well.

SE-wise, I was moody and exhausted. I got overwhelmed very easily! I also had weight gain (about 5 pounds) That's about it though. I was really only unbearably moody for a few days.

The drug was not intolerable for me, but it's also not a walk in the park. I am glad that I have moved to injects.

  • Last month my re put me on 50 my of clomid. While taking it, I felt bloated (think regular person to egg shape in less than 24 hours) and had a little rage moodiness problem, but it was fine. I responded well, four good follies, but the iui didn't work. My lining was a teeeensy bit thin, but that was it. I was set to try again, but thanks to monitoring it was discovered ibhabe two giant cysts (44 and 39 mm) thanks to clomid. :-( so I will sit this month out. I asked about injects, but I'm leaning towards clomid again, because I know my body responded well. Be sure to get monitored (baseline ultrasound, day 10 ish us). Like I said, I'm obviousy having some complications, but I'd do it again. Good luck to you!

  • I am in a similar boat, I only had 3 cycles last year off birth control.  I was diagnosed with PCOS, and my GYN referred me to an RE, but also told me that their hospital was recently participating in a clinical trial for people with PCOS.  The clinical trial is testing Clomid vs Femara, and it's double blind, so I don't know which I am on.  They cover all expenses and do monitoring, which is great since I'm 100% OOP.   They start at the lowest dose and work their way up.  So far, I didn't respond to the low dose, but responded well to the medium dose.  I have had no symptoms, but I'm trying not to read into that to tell me which drug I'm on.

For more information and a list of participating hospitals (at the bottom of the website):  https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00719186
