what do you plan to do?
It will be here before we know it.
I know we will get the outlet snap in things and find some way to keep our bottom kitchen cabinets closed. I hate to drill holes in my nice cabinets but am looking and don't really see anything besides the magnetic ones and I wonder if those really work well.
Anything else I am missing? Do we really need the door ones if we can just lock the door? I don't plan to let her roam unsupervised. lol. I was thinking about getting the door stopper ones for bedroom doors to avoid pinched fingers but we keep our doors open pretty wide or all the way closed. Our power strips are all hidden and not accessible. Is some of this other stuff really necessary? Anything big I am missing?
Re: s/o Baby proofing
We'll also be proofing our linen closet doors as well as the drawers and cabinets in the bathrooms. Plus, we need a baby gate from our kitchen to the basement. We have a half wall of spindles from our kitchen to the opening of our basement stairs - not sure what we'll do there. Debating if we need to maybe put some sort of plexiglass or something over the half wall so he won't try to stick his head in it. I need to ask the previous owners (DHs aunt and uncle) what they did when they were baby proofing - I did not pay attention when we moved in 4 years ago, let alone at birthday parties there before then,
ETA: Oh, also - we have a fireplace downstairs that we'll DEFINITELY need to baby proof. We had some stuff on our registry but no one bought it
yeah. I do need bathroom ones too. Are you all doing the drill on ones?

our house is a death trap right now between computer cords and random stuff we leave lying around (a friend's 2 year old brought me a bottle of bug spray he found the other day. OMG! No idea where he even got it! Left on my husband's desk maybe?!)
So is ours! We have cords everywhere and random clutter that I keep trying to get rid of and DH keeps putting it back. Grr.
We will be putting latches on the cabinet doors, drawers, putting a baby gate at the top of the stairs, decluttering, somehow hiding the cords we have everywhere, and putting all the chemicals somewhere else (even though the latches will be on the cabinet doors, I'm a little paranoid I guess). Oh, and outlet covers. We might have to move our cat tree once he's older because I could see a kid trying to climb up on it.
Do not forget to check your door stoppers. Mine have a rubber end on them that pops off and is a choking hazzard. I pulled off the rubber ends until i can get new ones. I would rather have a dent in the bottom of my door or a door nob in my wall than my lo choke on those damn stoppers.
I also bought a product for the windows, so he could not fall out, but they are easily removable for a fire. Got them at onestepahead.com. I work in trauma and you would not believe how many kids fall out of windows even when the parent is right there.
Great advice! I would have never thought of those! I need to check them.

We have a lot of cords that will ned to be covered/ hidden (sounds like a job for DH to me!). I am still planning/ hoping to be out of this house by the time Maya is walking, but we'll probably be here when she starts scooting/ crawling. I have outlet plugs, doorknob covers, and some drawer latches that were given to me (not in use yet- lol). If we're still here, I'll need a wide gate for the large opening between the kitchen and living room. I wish there was a way to let the dogs pass through the gate, but not the baby though.
I also want the safety devise that secures a flat panel tv that is on a stand to the wall- I don't want the tv coming down on her. DH is mostly worried about how to keep her from turning on/ off his xbox and PS3 since they're on shelves with no front. I'm glad he has his priorities straight...lol
