Persuade me. . .

to stop swaddling.  DS is about to roll, so I'd like to do away with the swaddle.  However,  I'm not sure that he's ready.  Last night he woke up and was babbling in his crib.  I went in and he had one arm out of his swaddle (we use the unbreakable swaddle technique).  I believe that's why he woke up...he was busy getting his arm out.

Is it a good time to break it during the 4 month wakeful that we are dealing with now?  How long did it take your LO to adjust to not being swaddled?

    I asked my pedi about this because we are dreading unswaddling. She said "do it until he doesn't like it anymore." She swaddled her kids until they were 9 months! We have been keeping one arm out for 3 nights now so he can suck his hand - we figured this is why he was waking up upset, and since we "gave him a hand" the past three nights he has slept solidly for 7-8 hrs. Not sure what will happen when we let the other arm free, but for now this is working for us.

    What about the rule that says once they roll, you have to quit swaddling? Did your pedi address that?
