What "stuff" do I need?

Hi ladies,

I have a 7 week old baby and my grandparents and aunt want to go in together on a gift for him. They want me to tell them what I want for him.

We had a big shower before he was born and I feel like I have all the "stuff" I need for him at this stage. I even have some of the things he'll use when he's bigger, like a jogging stroller and exersaucer. We have a lot of bigger stuff like a pack and play, swing, bouncy seat, travel system...

So what are some things that you love as a mother of a slightly older baby? I would love your insight- I'm so tired and busy at this point that I can't think of anything! Surprise I think we're probably looking at up to $100. Thank you!

  • toy box?  we received lots of stuffed animals and now some bigger toys (hand-me-downs) and don't have a great place to put them all.  one thing we couldn't live without is our baby bjorn...though any carrier like that would do, i suppose.  they're around 100.

  • High chair or if they are okay with a gift card, you could ask for a gift card so when it's time to buy a new carseat, you'll have some cash to go towards that purchase

  • High chair or a convertable car seat. That would run more than $100, though. I would second the idea of a carrier, so you can wear LO.

  • Another vote for the high chair. I have this one. It's nice to put him in it when I want to wash dishes, vacuum, etc. Throw some toys on the tray, keep him in my line of vision, and go!

  • I saw a Bumbo for sale at Kroger last night for $40 and almost keeled over. No one should ever pay full price for a Bumbo. They have such a short lifespan and I *always* see at least one for sale at the children's consignment store. Just wipe it down with hot soapy water.

I say a high chair, use it toward a convertible car seat, or get a GC that you could use for clothes as your LO outgrows what you currently have.

Personally, there are so many inexpensive booster high chair options out there for under $40 that I would probably use the money toward a convertible car seat or bank it for clothes.

  • Gotta ditto clothes. I am so thankful to all the clothes we received, because our daughter grew QUICKLY and is already in 6+ month clothing. You can easily spend a ton of money on stuff they barely even wear.

Or a high chair, playmat, jumperoo, etc...

This is a little different, but my aunt and grandparents gave us money we put into a savings account for our daughter when she grows up.

  • I would recommend a convertible carseat if you like one in that price range.  If not that, then maybe a high chair?
  • Thanks for the suggestions everyone! I think I'm leaning toward a high chair or convertible car seat. Great ideas!
