October 2011 Moms

Spent the night in L&D for nothing!

Last night I was having contractions for a good 6 hours and they were 5 min apart for about an hour. I wasn't sure if I needed to go just yet but MH insisted that we leave. As soon as we got there they settled down. I still felt a few but they were pretty mild. So I was feeling pretty stupid for going in. The nurse was reassuring that it happens to a lot of first time moms and not to worry about it. She said a lot of them come in a few times.

Well she had to send the resident in to check on me and she was awful. I mean I was already in tears because of how embarassed I was and the resident was pretty much laughing at me. She asked me if I have felt any contractions while I was hooked up to the monitor and I said about 3 but that they weren't too bad, she looked at me with a smirk on her face and said well we aren't picking anything up and without contractions you aren't in labor.

So at this point I just want to go home but I have to sit there and wait for discharge papers and everything and I just want to cry. I was there until 3 am and now I am up at working at 8. I just want to go back to sleep.

What a crappy night.

  • Sorry that it upset you so much...don't let her get to you though. As the PP said, its better to be safe and one day hopefully she will learn some bed side manners. My DH almost made me go in the other day because I was having timeable contractions but I could talk thru them so I locked myself in the bathroom with a warm bath so he would leave me alone lol!

O and remember your nurses during L&D, most are AMAZING and will be with you through the whole process!! Good luck!
