DD was 9lbs, 15 ozs at birth - but weighed 9lbs, 8 ozs when we checked out of the hospital (24 hours after birth). She was just weighed on Tuesday by a nurse and was at 9lbs 7ozs. I am EBF so I'm wondering what's "normal" I'm hoping she'll be up an ounce or two today when I bring her for her 1 week appointment. What was your LO's birth weight, weight when leaving hospital, and 1 week weight? TIA!
Re: What was your LO's birthweight? 1 week weight?
birth weight: 7lbs 14oz
when we left hospital: 7lbs even
the day after we left the hospital: 6lbs 9oz (my milk was not in, and we were not giving supplemental formula. We THOUGHT he was getting the "healthy colostrum" that everyone kept telling us he was getting...instead, he was extremely dehydrated and basically starving...it was horrible)
a week after the previous check-up: 7lbs 14oz! My milk had come in & we had begun supplementing with one bottle of formula a night.
DD was 7 lbs 11 oz at birth. At one week she was 7 lbs 3 oz. At two weeks she was 8 lbs 2 oz. At 5 weeks she was 8 lbs 6 oz. I think she is around 9 lbs now.
She is exclusively breastfed. My pediatrician was not concerned about her slow weight gain, as long as she was gaining weight. He said 2-3 weeks to get back to birthweight was okay in breastfed babies and that sometimes it just took awhile for them to regulate. He has been very supportive of my breastfeeding, please don't let anyone discourage you from feeding your baby! My family acted like I was starving my daughter but she is doing fantastic and has no stomach problems. My brothers twins ALWAYS have a belly ache and they get formula. I prefer the slow weight gain to constant stomach problems.
I am an EBFer and have had two different experiences.
DD was 7lbs 10oz at birth and 7lbs 2oz when we left the hospital. When we took her to the doctor two days later she was back to her birth weight and two weeks later she was 8lbs 10oz.
With my first he was 8lbs 15oz and hardly lost anything before leaving the hospital. He lost almost a pound when we got home and was slow to gain despite his crazy appetite. Even as a toddler he has been slow to gain weight but the doc says that as long as he is consistent that he is ok.
8lbs 11.7oz at birth.
8lbs 3oz (I believe) leaving the hospital 3 days pp.
8lbs 6oz at 6 days pp.
Birth- 7 lbs 6 oz
Leaving- 7 lbs
1 week- 7 lbs 8 oz.
It really varies depending on the baby. DD gained her birth weight back relatively quickly, but she's always been a peanut. Barely on the charts now at 16 lbs 8 oz.
he was 7lbs 12oz when he was born.
7lbs 3oz when we left the hospital
7lbs 9oz at his 3 day check up
9lbs 3oz at 2 weeks
born at 8lb 8oz
went home at 8lb 1oz
4 day check up 7lb 13oz
1 week check up 8lb
She was slow to gain and I was working w/ a LC as we were EBF at the time. She gained her birth weight back by 3 weeks. The first NP I saw was VERY concerned but she was an idiot and I went to a new pedi who said she looked great.
birth weight - 6 11.
left hospital (2 days) - 6 6. Milk came in that day.
5 days old - 6 8.
2 weeks - 7 2.
She had a growth spurt around 10 days. Pedi thought this was good weight gain.
