Birthing Ball, anyone using?

Is anyone planning to use a or has used a birthing ball and bringing w/ you to the hospital.  I don't think my hospital has them and if they do I don't want to have to wait for one to be available.  Where did you purchase it from?  I'm having trouble finding one that's 55cm.  Will you bring to the hospital already inflated?

Re: Birthing Ball, anyone using?

  • The hospital I'm delivering at has them available to use so I'm planning on hopefully using one.  Anything to help avoid an episiotomy.  I do have an exercise ball that I normally use for crunches that I have been using some that is 55cm.  I think birthing balls are basically the same as exercise balls so you might want to check out ***'s Sporting Goods (or another similar store) to see if they have ones that are 55cm.  Mine is really easy to inflate and comes with a small pump so it would be easy to add deflated to your hospital bag and quickly inflate at the hospital.
  • Loading the player...
  • My hospital has them but not for every room.  They do sterilize them after each use (supposedly...).  We're going to take mine with us (TJ Maxx 65cm, $13) but leave it in the car.  I'll send DH out to get it if there is not one available.

  • I used one with my DD's labor and it really helped the back labor! They gave me one that was sanitized and then put a sheet over it.

  • Finally found one from Walmart.  Thanks everyone!

  • I have one I'll use while laboring at home (hoping I don't have to get induced), but once I'm at the hospital they already told me they don't allow them Sad

  • I plan on bringing mine already inflated, but my back seat is big enough that it won't be a problem.

  • I am going to buy one for home this weekend.  My hospital provides them, so I will just use theirs when I am in labor at the hospital.

  • We borrowed an exercise ball from my parents that we will be bringing to the hospital; our hospital allows them but doesn't provide them.

  • I'm planning on bringing one.  I got mine at target for pretty cheap.  And it is nice to sit on at home.

I wonder why your hospital doesn't allow them. That sucks.

I think it's just because they are lame, haha!   I'm sure they would bring up something like "it takes up too much space" in the tiny rooms or some other excuse.  Sigh.

  • We have a birthing ball (exercise ball) at home. Our hospital has them, so I don't have to bring anything to the hospital.

I think I got mine at TJ maxx a few years ago. Also, I would bring it already inflated as they can take awhile to inflate with the little hand pump it comes with.

  • I'm bringing mine from home.  My hospital allows them, but they don't provide them for free, you have to pay for a new one (for sanitary purposes).  It's cheaper just to bring my own ;)
  • My hospital has them so I'm not bringing mine... it's just more crap to clutter up the room.  Everything else in the room is birthed on so I don't have a problem with a plastic ball.

  • My hospital has one in every room.  I may use it, or I may use the squatting bar which they also have in every room.  It's going to be a wait and see decision.
