Like I need another Dr's office to visit

I called my PCP for the referral today. I haven't been there in a year and half (2 in December), but I had talked to them this summer about everything and said that I couldn't find time to come in and would have a phone conference with my PCP, but she never called to set up a time.

When I call today, the nurse told me that I wasn't technically a patient any more since I haven't been in over 2 years (3 in December) and had not record of what I told the clinic about IF treatment. She said she would have to talk to the Dr. before writing the referral. I just break down and tell her I need it for Monday and I don't have time to come in and see them. My old PCP I hadn't seen in over 5 years and they had no problem with this. She said she couldn't write the referral if I don't see the dr. first. They had no openings today or tomorrow. I flipped and tried to get her to see how important this was. Eventually she put me on hold and checked with the dr, who okayed the referral if I had something on the books. I have an appoint mid-October, but I so don't want to go in and get more blood work and poking and prodding done. Arggg....like I need a third office to fight with.

Ugh, how frustrating! I hated having an insurance plan where I needed to have referrals, gotta love open access plans. And of course it doesn't help when the doctor isn't sympathetic to your needs. I don't understand why they are like that, especially since it's not as if they can do something to help you with IF issues! That's ridiculous. I'm glad you got it sorted out.

SOO annoying! Glad you were able to get the referral with just the appt on the books. As for the actual appointment, I would just say I don't want any tests run etc. and explain how you have been poked and prodded for a ridiculous amount of time. My PCP did not make me run any tests last December since I was seeing an RE. We'll see if she lets me slide in January when I have to go back....

I would only get a pap smear since your insurance may likely cover it, but I would refuse all blood work. I would tell her that the RE has already collected necessary bloodwork related to IF and anything else in general can be done at your primary care physician visit (even if you dont have a PCP).

I am not sure if she is doing this, but some MDs bring you in for anything so they can get the money. For example, I had a MD who wanted me to come in for a yeast infection. If it was my first one then I understand, but most women who have experienced one or more will definitely know when it comes back. I told her that I didnt think it was necessary and if she could call me in a prescription and if it didnt work then I would come in.

I am not sure when the last time you had a pap, but if its been almost 2-3 years, then it will be worth the visit. This way you get the confirmaton that you are healthy and ready to carry your baby.

I am up to date with my paps (my last one was in Feb. or March). I go to my OB for this. As much as love me PCP, I hate her office. This isn't the first time they have had me come in for really no reason. I had shoulder pain a few years back after a surgery. She made me come back in for two follow ups even though I was fine after the first. They said insurance needs me to come.

Ugh!! You got your refferal and that's what matters!! You can always cancel your mid October appt. a day or two before and "reschedule" if you have no reason to really go. Devil
