Trying to Get Pregnant

question about temp taking

This is the first month i have been taking my temp when i wake in the morning.  Im hoping this is going to help us get preg.

I got a low temp all of a sudden yest. and when i took my temp this morning i got the hightest ive ever had.  Yest. 96.1 and today 97.4.

i started temp taking towards the end of my P. and that began with a 97.2 temp.

According to this, I have already ovulated and missed my chance to conceive.  But Im confused because my discharge was not what they describe it to be when ovulating.  And for the last month my temp has done this once before, just not as high.  Am I in for another month of waiting now? Have I really missed my chance.

Re: question about temp taking

  • Honestly, it's hard to say without seeing your chart, can you link us to it?  Also, one single temperature should not make that much of a difference to your chart.  Ovulation is only confirmed after 3 days of temps above your coverline.  While it could mean you missed your opportunity, until you see your next 2 temps it's going to be uncertain.

I would post your chart if you can and go from there.  Also, honestly, charting doesn't help really at all in the first month.  It takes a few months of charting to get a picture of when you're ovulating before it becomes beneficial for timing.  By the time you find out you are ovulating with charting it's too late, it's only helpful for future months and calculating where you are in your cycle.

If you're concerned about missing your timing, try adding OPK's into the mix, for the first 3 months, that way you'll have an idea of when you're ovulating.  Once you have an idea of what your cycles are like, you can get rid of the OPK's and stick to charting.

  • Have you been taking your temp at the same time each morning? If you wake up at different times, your temps can be quite different.

You won't know that you've O'd until you see a sustained temperature shift. It's not unusual for my temps to be low one morning and high the next (even taken at the same time of day). It could be the norm for you too, but you won't know until you temp for a while.

  • I cant link my chart, i have been keeping it on phone.  But the temps have been at the same time everymorning and are all over the place.  Thanks for the heads up about doing this for a few months.  I will def. try all the options at the same time.  How would i pinpoint my time for the future if my cycle is always different?

  • What CD are you on?

  • Tough to say without seeing your chart or knowing what CD your on. Your temp rises as the day advances. Did you take your temp at the same time in the morning?  It goes up the later in the day it is.

Also, are you sick. I had a higher temp on CD10, but I had a cold so the temp was  a toss out.

  • It's hard to say without knowing more about your cycle.   (what cycle day you're on etc.)  I agree with the other ladies about FF.  I love it.  I do put my temps in my phone in the morning (which does have a chart) but then later I put it on FF online and log any other symptoms as well.  I like the chart on FF much more.

  • You can't know for sure that ovulation has occurred until you've had a sustained temperature shift. If your temperature remains elevated tomorrow and the next day, then you can probably confirm ovulation taking place yesterday.
