Work Issues :( Need to tell someone

So I work as an operations analyst for a large allergy group at their corporate office. I travel an hour to and from work every day. I am about to finish my masters in 25 days!!! and I am grossly underpaid. We have a practice that is less than 2 miles from my house that recently lost their Practice Manager and I am soo qualified for the job and have been working for the company for 2 years now and would require very little training, I help support the managers (all 34 of them) on a daily basis. The only reason I am not getting the job is because I am pregnant. They wont even interview me. My boss keeps telling me that she is optimistic that she can persuade the doctor to hire me anyway but I know that they have interviewed someone that is much less qualified than me and are probably going to offer her the job. My boss keeps saying that she is reminding Doctor so and so that it is illegal to take into consideration that I am pregnant. But that doesnt mean that she still isn't. I am just super bummed because this would have been perfect. Oh well I guess if it doesnt work out after maternity leave I will start looking for a new job at a new company outside of this organization. booooooo ok pout over Smile

Re: Work Issues :( Need to tell someone

  • Congrats early on getting your Masters!!  Yes, it sucks, but that's politics. I worked in higher ed. for 5 years, same story, except I wasn't preg at the time. I have since moved out of the state and am looking forward to returning to work after baby's born. Good luck to you, maybe this other gal will quit or be fired by the time you're ready to return to work, then again, with the drama, you may be better off working elsewhere. Best wishes, no matter what you decide!!!

  • Thank you! I need to just trust that God has a plan and whatever happens will be what is best for me.

Thanks again. I feels good to be able to vent to people who are unbiased.

  • that sucks. i would put in a complaint with HR if you don't get the job just because you are pregnant. they shouldn't allow that and if the other person is less qualified than you it would be glaringly obvious.

  • Since you work for a large corporation, is there an HR person or an omsbudsperson/compliance you could raise this issue with?
  • Working in HR for a large company, these kinds of stories make me so angry. I am so sorry that is happening to you. If you don't have any sort of HR support internally, Is there any way that you could/would talk to the head doctor yourself (after clearing it with your current boss) if it ends up going nowhere? You can use that opportunity to sit, face to face, and explain why you are more than qualified for the job. Sometimes when faced with that "direct" approach it will wake someone up to the reality of what is going on. I get that your boss is trying to be your advocate, but I'm sure it is so much easier for this doctor to say no to her than directly to you. Good luck!

Will baby #3 be another girl?
