Trying to Get Pregnant

Others with Endo...

How do you deal with the pain that comes with AF? I was diagnosed in college, and was on BCP to manage it (very effectively, for which I'm thankful!), until May. My doctor said everything looks good, and I stopped taking the pills so DH and I could start TTC. Over the past few months the pain and cramping I feel before/during AF has gotten progressively worse.

Before I was on BCP, I had a prescription for Percocet to manage the pain, but I haven't wanted to take that again since we're TTC.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Others with Endo...

  • I only use narcotics during af at night if I can help it. I don't see how it would hurt TTCing. I just take max dosages of ibprofen, and use a heating pad. LOL Thats about the extent that I have found to help with the pain. Good lucl

  • I take 800 mg Ibuprofen, Hydrocodone and cuddle my heating pad.  It doesn't bother me to take the pain medicine while on my period because I am obviously not pregnant.  But I cannot walk or function without the pain meds.  Hope you get some relief!

  • Ibuprofin and my heating pad is my best friend. I could never score narcotics from my doctor, so thank your lucky stars you have it just in case!

  • I haven't officially been diagnosed yet, but I can say that I have to take the 800mg of Ibuprofen AND regular Tylenol just to be able to act human.  Also, the heating pad is my best friend.  My only suggestion is when you find something that works, keep your eyes on the clock and don't miss a dose.  If I wait until I'm in pain to take my next dose then I'm too late.

  • It's so hard with endo because PG and BCPs are the best things to keep it at bay. Sorry you're dealing with this.

I take 800 mg. of Ibuprofen as soon as the cramps start and then stay ahead of the pain. Once you're to the point where you're doubled over, it's so hard to manage it.

BTW: My RE is perfectly fine with me taking Ibuprofen on CD1 & 2, he said you just want to avoid it past CD3 when you're TTC.

  • Thanks for all the advice, ladies. Sweetgoose, I'll have to try those heating patches while I'm at work. I completely forgot those even existed!

I may try to get my Percs back next month, if this isn't our cycle, since all the OTC meds don't really do much for me. I've been trying to avoid them, not so much because of TTC, but because I need them most while I'm at work, but I'm not really supposed to take them while I'm there.

Thanks again for all the ideas and encouragement. I really appreciate it!
