Waiting to hear back from the nurse... (bit of a vent!)
So I get a voicemail this afternoon from a nurse at my doctor's office with a very straight tone saying "I'm calling to talk about your recent lab results. Please call us back with the phone number of your pharmacy." No, "We have your lab results. Please call back at your earliest convenience!" Just a flat toned nurse scaring me to death.
I called back, but the nurses are VERY hard to get a hold of. Calls ALWAYS go straight to voicemail, and while it says they return calls within 24 hours, it's often 48 hours or longer before I hear back. And of course they only call during work hours, so it's usually a game of phone tag. This time I called the appointment line, but they still said they'd have to call me back.
I can only assume this is because I failed my 3-hour GT. But I'm just so mad that they had to scare me like that... are they seriously going to put me straight on meds without discussion?
For my 1-hour test, I barely failed with a 137. A lot of doctors consider that passing... and now I have to jump straight to meds? I'm not overweight, I eat pretty healthy, and while I don't purposefully exercise daily, I do end up walking at least 2-3 miles a day at work since my classroom is far from the main part of the school.
I'll deal with whatever I need to in order to keep the baby healthy, but I just feel like my body is unhealthy now, and I'm sad to think that if I do have GD, it means our son is at greater risk for diabetes later.
Could it be anything else? Why else would they want my pharmacy's number?!

I had a 137 on my one hour and passed ... but my doc said a lot of other OBs use 135 as the cut off in which case I would have failed ...
a few months ago I got a call from the hospital scaring the crap out of me - I called back and they told me they had no idea why anyone called me and they must have dialed the wrong person

IF you did fail the 3 hour GTT test, they may want your pharmacy # so that they can order you blood sugar testing supplies. It's my understanding that they have you try to control it with diet and exercise before starting you on any sort of medication. (My cousin had GD and managed it through diet and exercise...but she had to get test strips at her pharmacy.)
Having said that, I'd hope that they'd actually TALK with you about test results before ordering anything...
I was thinking about that... what are the symptoms?
I just tried to call the dr.'s office again since it's about closing time, and it's in fact closed with no option to leave a message for the nurses... they didn't call me back! The most frustrating thing about this is the nurses... I've been having issues with their communication for the last 3 months, but we really like the doctor and don't want to switch so late in the pregnancy!
I was also wondering if it'd possibly be that you're just anemic... OTOH, like a PP mentioned it could also be to order testing supplies.. Most of all, don't let yourself get worked up about anything yet until you know. As much as it sucks!!!
I'm mostly just worked up because the nurses are pretty unprofessional when it comes to communication! If they had been bright and cheery and said, "Please give us a call when you get a chance, we have your results!" I would have been much better. It's just always an issue trying to get a hold of anybody in that office!! All this on the same day that my appointment for tomorrow got cancelled. Pregnancy hormones are kicking in and I am not my usual patient self, I guess!
