I just got off the phone with a lady from my medical group. I called with questions concerning what hospital options I have when it comes to delivery. There are 2 hospitals in the area: Hospital A, which is the one contracted with my medical group (community hospital) and Hospital B, which is my hospital of preference. I know the medical group has a contract in the works with B, but they don't know when it will go through. I just wanted to make sure I had the option of going to Hosp. B when it came down to it-meaning that my insurance would cover it (they will).
So I am talking to the lady, expressing my concerns as to why I would prefer to use Hosp. B-I have heard epidural horror stories from Hosp. A from multiple people, plus they only have a basic NICU. If your baby needs more then what they can handle, they air ambulance baby to a hospital an hour and a half away. Hosp. B has everything there. Plus Hosp. A is in the complete ghetto, and I am pretty sure I saw bullet holes in the window when I visited a friend after she had her baby there a few years back.
Anyways. Lady is pretty understanding about my concerns and says "Let me get you the name and number to the lady over at Hosp. A-she can arrange a tour and you can see their 5-star maternity ward! Then you can make a decision based off of that." Fine. Sounds great. So I am on hold for about 5 minutes and when she gets back on the phone she actually has the lady on the line. (Probably what irritated me the most was the fact that I really had to pee and was holding it-5 minutes into the hold I was like screw it I am going! and as soon as I started she gets back on the phone-I had to stop mid stream and hold it until the convo was over
)
So the lady from Hosp. A is being all cheery and trying to sell me to her hospital. She gave me all the dates and times for hospital tours and the BFing and child birthing classes-saying that most people are SOLD on all of the smiling faces of the nursing staff. I'm sorry, I would rather have a competent anesthesiologist who can give me my epi on the first shot in exchange for a sprightly nurse.
That said, she may have put a shadow of a doubt in my mind and now I am curious to do both of the hospital tours. *sigh* I wish this was easy.

Re: I'm irked
Seriously do both tours, but I'd lean toward B!!
