Refuses Baby Food

DS hates baby food, homemade, jars, cereal, he will not eat any of it! Our pedi suggested we start letting DS eat table food. I have been letting him practice on puffs. Anyone who has started table food or finger foods what does your LO eat? What foods did you start on? Do I have to put it in a mill to start with?

  • Andrew is the same way (DS1 ate whatever I put in front of him, so I know it's not something I'm doing wrong!).

We have been basically letting him chew on things and watching him VERY carefully.  Like a nilla wafer, pretzel stick, last night I gave him the crust of DS1s grilled cheese to chew on and he LOVED it.  I've given him little tiny pieces of sliced cheese.  I've been meaning to steam some carrots and apples and cut them into tiny pieces for him.  I'm not really sure what else to give him yet.

  • I posted something very similar to this yesterday. One bumpie suggested that I let her try to feed herself. DD was grabbing at the spoon and food when I'd try to eat.

I broke a banana up into baby pieces and let her go at it. She loved it. She ate 1/2 a banana and then even let me spoon feed her some puree.

I'm roasting some pumpkin and squash tonight into little pieces and trying that for dinner.

When she feeds herself do you give her small pieces like the puffs? DS can not figure out how to get those out of his hand and into his mouth ... if only his mouth were near his eye or ear :)

  • We have been giving Jay table foods for a while. He is just now starting to refuse baby food. We will give him a little of whatever we are eating. We make sure the pieced are to big but he does very well with solids. The only thing he doesn't do well with are noodles.

We do eggs, pancakes, cream cheese or french toast and whatever baby food I can get him to eat for breakfast. Cheerios are always good to!

Lunch and dinner usually depend on what we eat.
