Removing smell from metal water bottles

My reusable bottles have a slight odor to them. I've tried letting them soak filled with hot water and dish soap and scrubbed with a bottle brush but there is still a faint, lingering smell.

Would vinegar and/or baking soda help? Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks!

I haven't tried vinager but when I store my SO's thermos and water bottles/carriers I put baking soda in them, it seems to absorb and smell and moisture (for storing purposes.)

Salt works really well, too. I get kosher salt since the granules are bigger.

I would try baking soda. Vinegar probably wouldn't be a great idea, since putting acidic things into metal containers essentially makes a battery, and has the potential for burning you/ exploding.
